Today we have a special guest post from the very talented J.E. Taylor. She has just released the latest Steve Williams novel, Crystal Illusions, a Thriller/Suspense book, that has a perfect 5.0 star rating.

I’d like to thank J.E. for appearing here on the ENT site and for another great addition to the Steve Williams series. If you haven’t read a J.E. Taylor book yet make sure to check this one out!

The Art of mystery…

What makes a good mystery?

Is it the thrill of the unknown or the challenge of figuring out who’s responsible for the crimes?

When I was a kid, I read Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys and then I graduated to Agatha Christie before veering into the thriller and horror realm. Those early mysteries challenged my curiosity and it was always fun to put the puzzle pieces together. I can count on one hand the books I’ve read where I hadn’t nailed down who did it long before the ending and those are the ones I remember. Those are the ones that had the greatest impact on me as a reader.

I believe a good mystery keeps you guessing at every turn. It offers surprises and false clues and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the big reveal. I love a good mystery, especially when it blends the supernatural into the mix.

I wrote my latest book, Crystal Illusions with these points in mind and I hope readers agree that I succeeded in achieving my goal in crafting a good mystery.

Crystal Illusions (A Steve Williams Novel)

Assistant D.A. Carolyn Hastings has an uncanny knack for putting away criminals. With one of the best prosecution records in recent history, her future as Manhattan’s next District Attorney looks certain. But her sixth sense for winning cases threatens to work against her when she starts seeing a string of murders through the eyes of the killer.

With suspects piling up as fast as bodies, and the motives of those closest to her questionable, Carolyn doesn’t know who to trust. When the FBI assigns Special Agent Steve Williams to the case, Carolyn discloses her deepest fear – that the man she loves may be the one responsible for the city’s latest crime spree.

The only thing Steve knows for sure is Carolyn has an inexplicable psychic connection with the killer, and all the victims have one thing in common…a striking resemblance to Carolyn Hastings.

And he knows it’s only a matter of time before this psychopath knocks on her door.

“Taylor has a strong thriller where every single character has reasonable doubt flashing like a neon sign hanging over them, and right from the beginning you are trying to guess who the killer really is. Gripping, rich and magnificent – crime whodunnits don’t get any better than this!” Author Poppet / Gemma Rice – Author of Quislings, Blindsided, Djinn and Dusan
