Amazon announced that The Onion has created five ebook collections exclusively for the Kindle.

The Onion is a national publication and website that delivers satirical news. 1.8 million readers read their publication weekly and they get over 10 million hits to their website each month.

The collections are “Americas Finest Tech News,” “Chronicles Of The Area Man,” “The Finest Reporting On Literature, Media, And Other Dying Art Forms,” “The Best Of Jim Anchower,” “The Best Of Herbert Kornfeld” and will sell for $2.99 each.

The Onion and Amazon had this to say about the ebook collections:

“Our customers are fans of books by the Onion in print format, and the Onion is one of our most popular Kindle Periodicals,” said Russ Grandinetti, Vice President, Kindle Content. “We hope Kindle readers will enjoy these five exclusive titles, which are the perfect way to add even more levity to your holiday season.”

“We are excited to present these five new titles to our readers which were created exclusively for Kindle,” said Marc Lieberman, VP Business Development at the Onion. “We are always looking for innovative ways to publish ‘America’s Finest News Source,’ and this is a natural fit.”

The Onion can also be found on radio and video and, in 2009, won a Peabody Award for it’s online video series. Also, in January they will launch two tv shows.
