“Amy Sprenger’s foray into factual fiction is a hilarious (and sometimes poignant) look at high-risk pregnancy…Sprenger offers a fresh and funny voice that readers will love!” -Jen L.

Wearing her highest heels and hottest pregnancy jeans, Amy Sprenger marched into her doctor’s office, latte in hand, ready to finally see whether her baby was a boy or a girl. Sure, sure, this appointment was supposed to be about checking the health of the baby, but everyone who’s ever been there knows it’s really about looking for what lays, or doesn’t lay, between the legs.

So when the doctor tells her she has an incompetent cervix, Amy does what any woman would do. She becomes immediately offended. Is that a politically correct way of saying her cervix sucks? Unfortunately, as she’s soon to learn, it’s a lot more than that. The only way to keep that baby from falling out on the sidewalk (probably in front of Starbucks) is for her doctor to stitch her cervix closed and for Amy to stay in bed for the next four months.

Four months that are carefully detailed in this “memoir.” A memoir that while basically true, has been embellished with Amy’s signature brand of humor and hilarity. With more time off than a castoff contestant on The Bachelor, Amy took pen to paper and settled in for the ride. But instead of sitting around eating bon bons, she’s popping hypertension drugs to stave off preterm labor. And complications?

Oh, she’s got your complications. She’s gut-rehabbing her house. Her mother moves in to care for her. Her husband takes a “mancation” while she’s stuck in the hospital. And every time she has a contraction, she’s convinced it’s The Big One. Living by the adage that laughter is the best medicine, Amy fumbles her way through a series of sometimes serious and usually embarrassing situations. And just to be clear, using a bedpan qualifies as both serious and embarrassing.

“The world this book took place in was very fleshed out, and you could really picture what was going on.” -Alyssa G.

The Vara of Yima, the original Garden of Eden, sealed from the rest of the world and populated with the fittest of men and women. A secret paradise that 150 years ago became ravaged by smog that choked out the skies. Now the Vara exists in a permanent state of darkness and its people need a champion, a chosen one to save them from the smog that threatens to fill the realm and poison its inhabitants.

That’s what they needed. They got Sammy Ellis instead. She isn’t important enough for her dad to stick around for, never mind saving a realm or junk like that. Her only responsibility was to help the chosen one open the gateway into the Vara, but not only has she entered the realm in their place, she’s also locked them out in the process. Stuck in a twilight land of giant mushrooms, pursued by dark forces and still in her pyjamas, being unimportant back in the real world is starting to seem way more attractive.

“Very entertaining story and I’m glad I took the time to read it. Well worth my time.” – Justin F.

Not since Charles Dickens has there been such a charming story about an unfortunate waif. The do-gooders do good, but the evil villain is as crafty as Fagan and the waif is, well, different. He’s just as charming as Oliver Twist, but with quite a lot of The Artful Dodger in him, as well.
It’s set in New York City, which can be as uncaring as London of old.

Our heroine, Janice Rosenthal, is an unwed middle-school teacher who excels at her job and loves to connect with students. Until she learns The Unreachable will be in this year’s class, that is. She may have met her match in the boy who has made a reputation, over the years, for terrorizing teachers and disrupting classes. No one can control him. The principal is unsympathetic and insists the boy will be in Janice’s class.

The teacher, a Tennessee gal, grits her teeth and makes ready to do battle, using all her wiles to circumvent the disruption of her class. Unbeknownst to Ms. Rosenthal, Pastor Nan, who runs a home for wayward boys, will fight tooth-and-nail to make sure no one adopts Andrew and deprives her of the state check she gets for the waif.

Janice slowly realizes that discipline can’t be achieved with harsh rules and punishment. Andrew Bryant is tough as nails and can’t be bent to her will. But, as they wage their epic battle, she learns there is another side to the little monster. Can she use softer methods to lure out the gentler side of his nature?

Nick Whittier, having been alive for six centuries, has had plenty of time to master three professions. In a typical week he works as a police officer, lawyer and doctor and still finds time to murder someone and drink their blood.

He used to feel guilty about the killings, but now he restricts himself to only eating the worst members of society. Few people in Starside, Illinois seem to care about the untimely deaths of spam e-mailers, pushy Jehovah Witnesses and politicians.

However, the barriers between Nick’s three secret lives start to crumble when a mysterious man from his past arrives in town seeking revenge. Nick must move quickly to prevent the three women in his life, and the authorities who are hunting him, from discovering his terrible secret.
