Lost in Temptation by Lauren Royal – England, 1815 – Lady Alexandra Chase has always done what was expected of her. But when the man she’s loved since her girlhood returns from a long spell abroad, she quite suddenly finds herself hoping the fine lord her brother has picked for her won’t propose.

Prelude to a Wedding by Patricia McLinn – Charming Paul Monroe has the Peter Pan thing down pat. As an antique toy appraiser, even his work involves play. Which is fine, unless your job is to keep his Chicago business running smoothly despite that charm — and sexiness — being aimed at you.

We are the technology of the future.

The Institute is all Adan knows. And the scientists who run it don’t seem to know or even care who he might have been before he came there. But the strange technology they’ve fused inside of him and his missing memories are only the beginning as he finds himself swept up into a conflict between the researchers and the last remnants of humanity untouched by their experiments.

Part mystical science fiction, part dystopian thriller, Into the Vast is the high-tech exploration of humanity at the pinnacle of innovation and achievement, a time when science has made virtually anything possible. But in getting there, something has been lost along the way. And perhaps the only person who knows what that is, is the one who doesn’t know anything at all.

Dr. Pamela Forrest is determined to bring Julia’s memories to the surface, hoping to heal Julia’s panic disorder. The therapist keeps returning Julia to a night twenty-three years ago when Julia was four. A night of hooded figures, strange chants, pain, and blood. The night her father disappeared from the face of the earth.

But the line between the past and the present begins to blur when Julia finds a silver skull ring that bears the name “Judas Stone.” Someone is leaving strange messages inside her house, even though the door is locked.

The handyman, who has a key, spends a lot of time in the woods behind her house. Her boyfriend Mitchell becomes distant and violent. And the cop who investigated her father’s disappearance has followed her to the small Appalachian town of Elkwood.

Now she has a head full of memories, but she doesn’t know which are real and which are the creations of Dr. Forrest. The shadows of Julia’s panic are growing larger and darker. But succumbing to madness seems safer than heeding the whispers that claim ownership of her body and soul.

The Assassin and the Disciple

You won’t expect the end. You won’t see it until you are there and then when you are, you’re still wondering if somehow another book has been appended onto the one you’ve been clutching tight in your hands. But it all fits together. And that end, it’s not out of order at all.

It’s a puzzle piece Austin has been floating in front of you all along. And then you finish, and say “Jesus, did I just read that? Damn, did I just make it through that?” Pitting brother against sister, God against Man, Virginia Austin’s new book “The Assassin and the Disciple” is shot out of a cannon and from there the uneasiness never ends.

It’s an apocalyptic tale riding like a roller coaster through hell. Born into an ultra-religious family, we soon learn what has sent these two siblings on their own separate paths. In alternating chapters, Austin takes a no-holds-barred approach with each one. Both are on a death march.

Both believe they’re well justified in doing so. One finds alliance with God, the other with Man. It’s a race to see who gets to the end and you’re almost hoping neither crosses the finish line.
