From the bestselling author of Shopgirl comes the tender story of a troubled man who finds love, and life, in the most unexpected place.

Daniel resides in his Santa Monica apartment, living much of his life as a bystander: He watches from his window as the world goes by, and his only relationships seem to be with people who barely know he exists. He passes the time idly filling out contest applications, counting ceiling tiles, and estimating the wattage of light bulbs. It is through Daniel’s growing attachment to Clarissa, and to Teddy, that he finally gains the courage to begin to engage the world outside, and in doing so, he discovers love, and life, in the most surprising places.

Filled with his trademark humor, tenderness, and out and out hilarious wordplay, The Pleasure of My Company is a tour de force sure to delight all of Steve Martin’s fans.

“Wow. This is one of those compelling books that kept me up all night to read it. After reading Prelude – Casting Stones, I was eager to find out what happened to James Raven and Esther. James chose to marry someone else, leaving Esther heartbroken. After his wife dies, he returns, and Esther believes this is her second chance.” – Ruth N.

A simple error in judgment leaves James Raven a broken man – his wife dead, and his infant son, motherless. He goes back home seeking solace, only to find more sorrow – and Esther Barton, his father’s hired girl – a woman he holds in contempt. Missteps seal James’s fate. The penance? His child, now in the care of the one he had scorned, suffers abuse and neglect. The woman James judged unacceptable, now judges him. Trapped and helpless, he can only watch in horror. Who will save the Ravens when they cannot save themselves…and at what cost? Their salvation ends with blood on their hands, and they must bury their sins, deep in the Loess Hills of Missouri.

In 2018, Dr. Amos Konklin, a renowned neurosurgeon dubbed “Doctor Golden Hands,” is arrested for a grisly double-homicide at the Old Wilderness Campground. During a mesmerizing interview with reporter Peter Wild, Dr. Konklin reveals a shocking secret. For decades he’s wrapped those golden hands around a twelve pound sledge-hammer, his instrument of choice in numerous executions. As the reporter probes deeper, he is lead into a world where a brain surgeon who spent his childhood running the “High Striker” carnival sideshow game is connected to Isaac Newton, Nikola Tesla, The Bible, and tormenting visions. High Striker is an unparalleled Old Testament/Carnivale thriller whose central character could be described as a God-obsessed fusion of Hannibal Lecter, Dexter Morgan, and a carny. It’s a remarkable journey through time and place and dares to confront the challenging question: What is the line that separates good and evil, coincidence and providence, delusion and reality?

What 17-year-old boy wouldn’t be tempted by the promise of power and control – no matter what form that promise came in? Seth knew exactly what he would do with power and control. He’d be well on his way to a wrestling scholarship, his dad could stop working so hard to make ends meet, and he’d forever have the heart of his girlfriend, Sandpoint High’s most beautiful girl.

For Seth, the temptation was much too strong to resist. And why should he? The way he saw it, he had everything to gain. But when he unknowingly invites another soul to share his body, Seth discovers that not all power is good – especially when it was never his to wield. And when the soul reveals its true intentions, will Seth have the strength to fight it or would death be less painful?

Hmm, your free books aren’t really free anymore! Strings attached are disapointing.

Please bring back the old format to the e-mails. This format is too involved and takes too much time. You have to click on several links before you can find a book you like. Too much work. Bring back the old e-mail!!!! There are not enough free books listed as before.

I can’t believe all the complaining. ENT has to do this. They explained in a different post. Shame on you all for not appreciating the free offers you still get. I don’t like it either but I do appreciate the time they invest in the free offers. Wake up people, if you don’t like just start buying your books then. Thank you so much ENT for the free service you offer.

I choose this reader guide over so many others, cause it had the most free books listed…what’s up? Looking somewhere else…but will hang around to see if page returns.
