iPhone Kindle Application Is Updated

by Greg on June 1, 2009

Good news for iPhone Kindle App users. Version 1.1 has now been released by Amazon with a few cool new features. To update to version 1.1 all you need to do is go to the app store and you can update there. Here is a run down of some of the new features on version 1.1.

  • Amazon has launched a iPhone optimized version of the Kindle Store. This has been integrated into the application.
  • You can turn pages by tapping the screen.
  • There are now three different color schemes which should make reading on the iPhone a little bit easier on you eyes since the iPhone is back lit and does not use the e-ink technology. You can use different background and text colors. For instance, you can use white text on black background or grey text on white background.
  • You can now zoom in and pan images
  • You can read your books in landscape now – just tilt your iPhone. You can lock in portrait or landscape using the padlock icon in the lower right.

These are all nice improvements that we’re glad to see. I’ll let you know of any future Kindle iPhone app updates so stay tuned.

Here’s what I don’t understand, and maybe someone can clear this up for me, but doesn’t allowing the kindle books to be seen on iPod Touch, Blackberrys, etc., hurt the sale of the Kindle for Amazon? I mean I was all set to get myself a Kindle until I learned I could download a free app to my Touch, and now even for my PC! Why in the world would I want a Kindle when I can bring my laptop along with so much more functionality? Since I don’t own a Kindle, maybe someone that does can elucidate for me. Thanks!
