Huge Kindle News!

by Greg on September 28, 2011

Well, we expected a big announcement today from Amazon regarding the Kindle tablet but the announcement was much bigger than expected.

There are now FOUR new Kindles that have been added to the Kindle family!

Here they are:
1. New Latest Generation Kindle–Fits In Your Pocket–Only $79

The new latest generation Kindle is for readers who want the lightest, most compact Kindle at an incredible price. The latest generation Kindle features a new design that is 30 percent lighter at just 5.98 ounces, 18 percent smaller, and turns pages 10 percent faster. Kindle is now small and light enough to fit easily in your pocket and carry with you everywhere, yet it still features the same 6-inch, most advanced electronic ink display that reads like real paper, even in bright sunlight.

This Kindle is available for $79. Details are here: Kindle, Wi-Fi, 6″ E Ink Display

2. New Addition to the Kindle Family–“Kindle Touch”–Only $99

Kindle Touch is a new addition to the Kindle family with an easy-to-use touch screen that makes it easier than ever to turn pages, search, shop, and take notes – still with all the benefits of the most advanced electronic ink display. Kindle Touch is also lighter, smaller, eliminates battery anxiety with extra-long battery life and holds thousands of books.

New “X-Ray” Feature

Amazon invented X-Ray, a new feature that lets customers explore the “bones of the book.” With a single tap, readers can see all the passages across a book that mention ideas, fictional characters, historical figures, places or topics that interest them, as well as more detailed descriptions from Wikipedia and Shelfari, Amazon’s community-powered encyclopedia for book lovers. Amazon built X-Ray using its expertise in language processing and machine learning, access to significant storage and computing resources with Amazon S3 and EC2, and a deep library of book and character information. The vision is to have every important phrase in every book.

The Kindle Touch is only $99. Kindle Touch is available to customers in the U.S. for pre-order starting today and ships November 21. Here are all the details: Kindle Touch

3. New Top of the Line Kindle e-reader–“Kindle Touch 3G” –Only $149

Kindle Touch 3G is a new addition to the Kindle family for readers who want the top of the line e-reader. Kindle Touch 3G offers the same new design and features of Kindle Touch – small and light, easy-to-use touch screen, storage for thousands of books, and extra-long battery life – with the unparalleled added convenience of free 3G. Kindle’s free 3G connection means you never have to hunt for or pay for a Wi-Fi hotspot – you simply download and read books anytime, anywhere in over 100 countries around the world. Amazon pays for the 3G connection so there’s no monthly fee or annual contract.

I love my kindle fire but I can’t get it away from my husband. He likes the games I have on it. Looks like I may have to invest in another one.

There is a “HELP & FEEDBACK” download in the apps store for the Kindle Fire. It is FREE !! Go to the apps & in the top right hand side there is a STORE tab, from there you will find ALL KINDS of apps free & purchase. At the top is a search Bar, type in Help & Feeback & you are on your way to better understanding you Kindle Fire. ENJOY !!!

Had a Nook for 2 years, and just recently lost the ability to order from it so I bought the Kindle Fire. I am so impressed with my Kindle!!! It is so much more user friendly than the Nook . I just love it, wish I had bought Kindle years ago, and everyday Amazon sends free book offers, I never got that from Barnes and Noble. Best buy ever. Thank you Kindle!!

Received a Kindle Fire for Christmas and IT IS THE BEST. So impressed with the ease of operating (for a first timer), great amazon support. Highly recommend.

I have the keyboard Kindle, 3G version. I have Nook touch, and like the touchscreen. I think Amazon is much better for ease of ordering books than B&N. I do like the touchscreen. But, what I want to know is, does the Kindle Touch have text to speech, and the ability to play Ebooks? I use both these features on my keyboard Kindle. I went straight through the Jim Butcher Harry Dresden stories, reading when at home, and listening with text to speech in the car, then back to reading. For me it would be ideal if one could buy both the text and an audiobook of the same book, and have them synced. I was outraged when I found out the Nook Touch couldn’t play audiobooks. What about the Kindle Touch?

Mark….”I’ll just stick to a book a month”?! Good luck with that! *LOL* With the books I’ve read this year (2011) I’ve probably averaged 2 books a week! I got my Kindle Keypad last year for Christmas. I love it! It goes everywhere with me…you never know when you might have a few minutes to read! *LOL* I’ve thought about a Kindle Fire, but think I’ll wait a while & see what happens with the Fire in the next few months. So far, I’ve heard there’s a lot of kinks in it.

Just got my second kindle. First one broke after five weeks. Hope that doesn’t happen again. This new one doesn’t have text to speech. I didn’t know that, but I can live without it. It’s really hard to find time to read all the free newspapers and magazines. I think I’ll just stick to a book a month.

Just bought myself the Kindle Fire for my birthday. Paid $100. Glad I waited all those months since the first ereaders become really popular. Could not choose between the Nook, Kobo, or Kindle. Glad I researched and waited. Kindle Fire is well worth the wait.

Does the new Kindle Fire support flash for games?

20 Rita L Tolbert November 7, 2011 at 7:42 am

I have pre-ordered mine. Can’t wait.

21 Faye Burden November 6, 2011 at 9:35 pm

I have had my Kindle keypad for almost a year and love it.
I have my new Fire on order. I expect to use them both as they are not the same. I will surf the wed and read email with the Fire but still read from the Keypad because it will be best for this because of the way the screen is lite.

22 LaWanda November 6, 2011 at 9:18 pm

Carol ~ I just spoke with an Amazon customer service representative; I was told that you can link up to six devices to you Kindle account. In other words, you will not lose your current library if you purchase the Kindle Fire. Awesome! I will be getting a Kindle Fire in December!

23 Janet DeBerry November 6, 2011 at 8:26 pm

Hurry Up!! I can’t wait for my new Kindle Fire!!!!

24 Sherry November 6, 2011 at 8:25 pm

I was told there is or will be a trade-in program with the Kindle FIre and our older Kindles. Does anyone know if this is true? I love my Kindle (and it goes everwhere with me) but would also love to have the convenience of email, etc in the same device. Right now the only way I can get one is if there is a trade in program of some sort.

25 carol November 6, 2011 at 8:05 pm

Will we be able to transfer our libraries to the new Kindle Fire when we purchase it? I have a lot of unread books on mine!

26 Loreto November 6, 2011 at 7:52 pm

I simply love my good old Kindle (3G). However, I want to have everything in only one device (emails, books, games+), so I ordered the Kindle Fire. If I am lucky enough it will be in my hands the day of my B’Day (November 16). I will take my Kindle Fire with everywhere I go, just like I do with my current one. Thanks Kindle for keep up with technology and keep us entertained and happy.

27 Tracey November 6, 2011 at 7:40 pm

Does anyone know if the Kindle Fire will have the ability to watch movies while in the car or will it require you to be connected to WiFi? I love my Kindle, so I am trying to justify buying another one.

28 Renda Doney October 2, 2011 at 2:57 pm

I really love my Kindle 3G with keyboard. The new models look really tempting. Wondering if the Kindle Fire will have an option for 3G eventually?

29 Hrrumph! September 28, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Nice. I just bought mine three weeks ago and now the new version is even cheaper.

30 Ingrid Stukey September 28, 2011 at 3:51 pm

I got the Kindle for my Birthday this month and now you bring this, not fair, I could of waited, but, I still like my Kindle and it has to do for a while. 🙁

31 Dianne M. Bret Harte September 28, 2011 at 2:44 pm

Darn! Just when I finally swallowed the KoolAid and bought a Kindle you’ve come out with this. Wish you’d told me to hold off so I could invest in the Fire. Too late.
