Set in Gilded Age America, a young woman must choose between circumstance and destiny. Orphaned as small children, Sterling Redmond and her older sister Charlotte are raised by their grandfather at the family’s Maryland country estate of Northampton. Charlotte blossoms into a famed Baltimore beauty, but Sterling is more interested in books and horseback riding than feminine pursuits. Concerned that her niece will never find a suitable husband among the local Baltimore gentry, Madame De Chant whisks Sterling away to Belle Époque Paris in search of a gentleman who can understand her. In their absence, Nicholas Pembroke, the son of an English earl, takes up residence in the manor bordering Northampton. When Sterling and her aunt return to America for Charlotte’s wedding, Sterling finds that her perfect husband is living right next door. But there is a problem: he is already engaged to marry Charlotte.

B. J. Edwards’ controversial and scathing satire of higher education, The Land-Grant, recounts the comical adventures of Dr. Hulden Harrison, a mildly neurotic and helplessly cynical professor of electrical engineering at a large, public, state university, as he battles the institutional bureaucracy, the Athletic Department, unscrupulous colleagues, and, ultimately, himself. His busy academic life suits him well, until he stumbles into the low-level administrative position of Associate Department Head, initiating a rapidly accelerating downward spiral of cynicism as he becomes embroiled in one mind-numbing task after another. Ultimately, he winds up chairing a committee charged with the construction of a new science and engineering building, which ultimately results in his stumbling onto a mystery involving an alleged misappropriation funds, pointing in the direction of the upper echelons of university administration.

Tiny fairies. Huge adventure.

Matilda Whipplethorn is about to get what she’s always wanted, and it’s a bad thing. Being a babysitter isn’t much of a dream for the average thirteen-year-old, but Matilda is anything but average. She’s half a centimeter tall, invisible to the human eye, and hearing-impaired. Her mother won’t let her forget any of that. So for Matilda, adventures are in short supply. Finally agreeing to let Matilda take some responsibility, her mother gives her a list of emergency procedures for babysitting. The only problem; humans aren’t on the list.

Minutes into her first job, humans appear in isolated Whipplethorn Manor. They tear her home, the fireplace mantel, right off the wall of Whipplethorn and Matilda’s afternoon babysitting job goes long term.

When the mantel ends up on display in an antique mall, the security that Matilda always took for granted is gone. She can lock the doors, but that doesn’t keep the kids in or spriggans and the fly-eating phalanx fairies out. Matilda’s up for an adventure, if only she could hear it coming.

When you download the book to your Kindle or Cloud, you can leave it there for as long as you like, the price won’t change once you’ve checked out. So if it say the price is $0.00 when you check out, that is all you will be charged, ever. If you’re finding that you’re getting charged for books, you might be reading posts that are old, because the books only stay free for a limited time. They can switch back to their regular price at any time, that’s why I check this site several times a day so I don’t miss out. I hope this helps

If I order the Land-Grant book today at 0.00, will I be notified when it returns to $16.95 or do you just charge my credit card? I’ve let a lot of good books go because of this issue and would appreciate knowing whether or how long I can keep it on my Kindle without reading it – or if I do this, will the price go back to $16.95 while I’m waiting and reading other selections? Thank you. Nancy Bailey
