Pregnant at 16, Renee Goodchild drops out of school and marries. Now she’s trapped in rural Texas with Kenny, her violent, garbage-collecting husband. A bleak future seems assured until she meets self-appointed relationship guru, Pearly.

“That’s why you don’t let ‘em rule the roost. ’Cause you can’t count on ‘em to be there the next mornin’ when it’s time to crow,” the worldly Pearly advises.

Renee narrates this tale of ruin and redemption where the damaged and downtrodden lead each other to unintended, sometimes heartbreaking, and often bittersweet outcomes. When Horses Had Wings examines the lives of broken people competing for the most basic needs: the primal urge for affection and the eternal search for acceptance.

Jonathan Muon’s world is falling apart. Or rather, as he nears his thirtieth birthday, he finds himself ensconced in a world which refuses to behave in a recognisable way. Instead, Jonathan’s world is governed by the rules which actually apply at the microscopic, atomic level… with bizarre consequences.

Obsessed by his non-existent sex life, his dreams of unseen yet threatening figures with huge choppers, and the machinations of his office co-workers, Jonathan must learn to cope with the curious behaviour of his world, in which telephones transmogrify into plucked chickens and his sense of time and place becomes unreliable.

Whilst dealing with the impending sense of doom that hangs over his upcoming birthday, he must also reach some sort of understanding with his boss Jake (who Jonathan believes is really a goat in managerial clothing); Jane, the siren at the office who tempts him mercilessly (“Venus in a pencil skirt”), his sexy flatmate Christine and his best friend Ray (who wants to break his legs). How will Jonathan come to terms with the increasingly bizarre nature of his reality? Will he actually reach his thirtieth birthday in one piece?

And what exactly is he going to do about the skeleton in the stationery cupboard?

The Spinster, the Orphan, and the Pig, by Jackie King opens with this sentence: “It was madness. One didn’t buy a husband the same way one bought a lumberyard… not even in the modern year of 1889. The opening hints that you’re in for a delightfully humorous tale full of romance and suspense, and author Jackie King does not disappointed. She weaves a captivating story revealing how spinster Harriet Lauren overcomes the obstacles women faced in 1889 to solve a crime, save both a pig and an orphan, and”of course”find love.

The Raucous Bird and a Felony Tryst by Paula Watkins Alfred introduces us to orphan Donnie Summersdale, who turns sixteen in Oklahoma’s statehood year. Donnie hides more than one secret as he works to learn who attempted to kill his protectress, Miz Myrtle… and why. This boy’s (but is he who he says he is?) quick wit and pithy comments entertain while suspense increases with each turned page.

Hats, Healing and Homicide in Tulsey Town by Peggy Moss Fielding is the sprightly story of spinster Eula Mae Kent. Eula Mae is dumped off a wagon in the wilderness outside Tulsey Town in September 1897, when she won’t give in to the wagon driver’s advances. A kind stranger takes her to town where she sets up business as a milliner and finds a home in a vacant Indian tipi. After a ferryman and his wife disappear, Eula Mae learns she has a talent for crime solving as well as hat making. This well-woven story offers a painless history lesson as well as an exciting plot involving people you’ll wish you could have known.

Hats off to you! You’ve just plunged into a wealth of information that hardly any professional doctors have a clue about. Get ready to relish in the brilliance of the kitchen miracle that surgeons shun and doctors disgrace.

A sea of unknown, unrevealed information awaits you. This book will act as your guide, so that you will soon be able to harness the full power of cayenne – the herb I once took for granted, and the herb that I now owe my health.

Everyone out there seems to be promoting good health. Well, that’s great. Good health is something that needs to be promoted.

You need herbs, not drugs. You need nature, not synthetics. You need to use the proven, natural, side-affect-free healers that the earth is full of, not the clear, cold liquids that scientists processed through a test tube.

If I had the time, I’d drive from house to house, shaking people out of their beds and telling them to wake up to the miracles of cayenne. But I can’t, so I’ve got the next best thing.

This report, which I’ve been compiling for a while, is brimming with the fiery brilliance of cayenne and all that I’ve found out about it…
