The Parker women of Riverton, North Carolina are known for three things: southern graces, storytelling, and sassiness. The second to some, would be considered outright lying, the last a surprise to those who view them as ladies with a gentle upbringing.

But the Parker legacy has never been what it seems and keeping up appearances has trumped the truth every time. Just as Charlotte is about to break the news of her plan to strike out on her own, her daughter, Janie, returns from college to announce she’s pregnant.

Her sister, Purdy, becomes desperate to take control and devises a sinister plan to rid the Parker’s of yet another family secret. But Janie’s upbringing has instilled a deeper faith in her than anyone realizes.

Compelling and unexpected, Wide Planked Porches is a moving novel that will make you rethink family duty, faith, and fortitude.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

Wide Plank Porches made me laugh and brought tears to my eyes as well. It’s a page turner. I wanted to read to the end to find out what happened. I usually am not attracted to Christian Fiction, but Laura Frances is a talented story-teller who gracefully and subtly weaves a sweet message of faith into a great story. The chapters alternated between 3 women, each one continuing the story from her viewpoint. The book is both a great story and a message about the power of family, friendship, and faith.

I really loved reading this book! It has a great message about loving your family and putting God first in your everyday life. I love how each chapter was from a different point of view of the different female characters. The bonds between these woman were so touching. I also enjoyed the humor throughout the story. I laughed and cried while reading this wonderful book! If you enjoy reading books about love, friendship and faith, you will love this book!

Laura managed to capture the Southern Christian Lady perfectly and the depiction of Southern values. I love that each chapter alternated between the three main characters of the book and the transition flowed so nicely. The characters were written so well that you felt like you knew them personally and that you were right there with them. I devoured this book in one afternoon and I thought about these characters long after I finished.

As a southern girl myself, raised in a family of strong women, I couldn’t wait to start reading. I was not disappointed–I couldn’t put it down! I loved that the chapters alternated as each woman took a turn telling the story, and I identified with the feelings of every single woman in this book at one point or another. Beautifully written, and a perfect depiction of southern values, family/friend/neighbor relationships, and the importance of faith in our lives. It will make you laugh and cry, and definitely won’t disappoint!

All families have a plank or two that can creak under the weight of relationship stresses, and the characters in this latest work from Laura Frances provide a fantastic image of just that. I read this novel in one night because I simply could not put it down.

About The Author

Thanks for stopping by! I’m a southern girl, but no southern belle. I love writing about family, family drama, mom-relationships, and lots of other things and tend to place them all in the south since it’s what I know best. I live in NC with my kiddos and dogs. I’m usually writing with that whole crew on the couch beside me while they watch tv, or are stuck with their noses to their smartphones. Except the dogs of course, they sleep 20 hours a day it seems. I’m a little jealous of that. And, I love to hear from readers. So keep that in mind if you have something to say.

Thank you for considering today’s Book Of The Day – Laura Frances and ENT appreciate it.
