It’s bonfire night in London. Emily has been invited to a party in the big house at the end of her street by the new owners, whom she has never met. Emily’s dog Jessie has recently died so Emily is feeling a little raw and emotional. How could she know, as she left her house that evening, that she was making an appointment with death?

Three Sisters is short fiction – approximately 17,000 words, equivalent to around 70 printed pages. It is the first story in a new comic mystery series by award-winning novelist Helen Smith, featuring amateur sleuth, Emily Castles.

It contains no swear words or sexual content.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

I thoroughly enjoyed this short story. I was in the mood for a quick read, and since I always enjoy a good mystery, this short was perfect for me.

I loved the British setting and liked the Emily and Dr. Muriel characters a lot. It may have been a tad predictable at times, but the writing was excellent overall. If you’re in the mood or need a quick read, you could certainly do a lot worse than this little gem.

I will certainly be on the lookout for future mystery stories my Helen Smith. I want to read more about Emily. Kudos to you, Helen!

I didn’t intend to read the whole story in one go but it was so entertaining and so intriguing, I was unable to put it down. Definitely one to read more than once. I sincerely hope this is the first of many and that Emily Castles will be back to entertain us again soon.

I so enjoyed this book. It was like a delicious English tea cake. Helen Smith is one of the most gifted contemporary British writers I’ve encountered. I love her work. And this little bonbon is perfect. Highly recommended.
