Defense lawyer Bobby Earl is the guy you call when it’s time to fix bayonets and go to trial.

But when he’s tapped to defend a notorious safecracker arrested for killing a decorated LAPD officer, Earl’s own life is suddenly in danger.

Earl must dive into LA’s dangerous underworld and battle a court system in which the news media and politics corrupt the wheels of justice.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. The author explains the goings on in the court system in a way I have not seen before. It is obvious that his own experience is brought into play. Things like having cops strategically placed in the courtroom audience to make faces during the defense closing arguments is one of the many little tidbits provided by the author. I easily give this book five stars.

This book kept me awake last night, as I rooted for Bobby Earl to somehow save his client and was surprised by plot twists along the way and at the end. The details of the crime and the courtroom defense seemed sooooo authentic, and I really cared about the characters. I hope I get to meet some of them again (especially Bobby Earl).

There have been thousands of legal thrillers published. Too many of them are awful, many of them are mediocre — but thankfully, there are some that are actually great. What luck to stumble across one of the great ones: THE INEVITABLE WITNESS is (surprisingly) the first novel from Ed Rucker — surprising because it’s his first time out and he really manages to hit all the marks.

An amazingly knowledgeable legal procedural – it is fiction, but it’s so authentic that it feels like it could be a true story. Filled with twists and turns and surprises, but each thrill is earned and utterly believable.

This legal procedural is gripping, entertaining and a real page turner. I was up until 1 am finishing it. Clearly the author writes from an intimate knowledge of criminal law, but the best part of the book is the seamless writing that could only come from a talented wordsmith.
