Penelope Drayton Spence made a choice years earlier, and picked marriage and family over a promising career as an investigative reporter. Now, divorced and with her children spread around the country, she is having second thoughts.

A mysterious call from the Managing Editor of the Washington Post, offers her a second chance at big time journalism. He has a story so sensitive that the President of the United States personally asked the Post to leave it alone.

With rumors of 30 top scientists missing and rich industrialist, Michael Walker, being held incommunicado in a prison typically used for terrorists, the story is too big to ignore. He quietly goes “off the grid” and turns to the only person he knows who is good enough to
crack this story, his old college friend Penelope.

The moment she picks up the phone her life is turned upside down and she soon finds herself traveling cross country with the most wanted man in America looking for information about the top secret “Hermes Project.”

On one level it is a straightforward suspense story with plenty of action, a healthy dose of humor and a pinch of sexual tension. On another it is a spiritual quest by a remarkable woman who meets an enlightened man the likes of which have never been seen in fiction before.

Thanks to Michael Walker she gets a “do over” that allows her to go back and select the path not taken. Over the course of the story she gradually grows to understand Walker and the amazing spiritual powers he possesses.

Penelope also becomes aware of the looming Fourth Awakening, and makes the chilling discovery that her reporting skills and ability to fight her personal demons may be the only thing that can save humanity.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

“My take: I enjoyed the novel as a new age thriller. The quick-paced plot keeps you turning pages as the stakes grow higher and the fate of the human race is in peril. Penelope’s character is well drawn and entirely believable. The rationale explaining the Fourth Awakening is fascinating. – P.J. Swanwick (Fiction for a New Age)

This is a novel about the power of thought and ideas. Literally power to change the physical world. Power of mind. There has been nothing like it since Ursula K. Le Guin’s classic novel, “The Lathe of Heaven”. But the latter was strictly fantasy, while this delicious story teases the reader with the possibility that such powers actually lie hidden, enfolded in human nature, waiting to be awakened. The Fourth Awakening. — Allan Combs, author The Radiance of Being

What a great read! The story kept my attention and was entertaining. It had a great pace, and enough twists and turns that it kept me wanting to read more to find out what happened next. The most remarkable thing about this book is that it has the potential to reach a wide audience.

I picked up this book, as a recommendation from an email list. At first I thought, it sounded “interesting”. Well it went way past interesting in about 4 pages. I couldn’t stop reading this book. Its like Indiana Jones meets Celestine Prophecy with lots of Michael Crichton to boot. I simply couldn’t put it down, it has all the things a good story needs.

I have just finished reading The Fourth Awakening and boy was I impressed. I am fascinated with the topic, and couldn’t put the book down until it was finished. The story line was gripping and the remarkable way an unimportant, or seemingly unimportant event could be very significant in the next chapter was very impressive. I think the authors of this book have produced a remarkable book and remarkable story line.
