Imperial law enforcer Amaranthe Lokdon is good at her job: she can deter thieves and pacify thugs, if not with a blade, then by toppling an eight-foot pile of coffee canisters onto their heads. But when ravaged bodies show up on the waterfront, an arson covers up human sacrifices, and a powerful business coalition plots to kill the emperor, she feels a tad overwhelmed.

Worse, Sicarius, the empire’s most notorious assassin, is in town. He’s tied in with the chaos somehow, but Amaranthe would be a fool to cross his path. Unfortunately, her superiors order her to hunt him down. Either they have an unprecedented belief in her skills… or someone wants her dead.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

Wow I absolutely loved this book. I have been surfing the cheaper ebooks for awhile now and this was the 23rd one I bought. By far my favorite! I thought the two main characters were fascinating and I fell in love with them. It wasn’t just them though, I loved them all. Fascinating story, very well written. I just added Lindsay to my favorite author list.

By far, Lindsay Buroker has arisen as my new favorite author. Her books are all quick, adventurous reads with endearing character camaraderie. I’m excitedly awaiting more forthcoming adventures in the Emporer’s Edge series.

It’s very well written, colorfully descriptive, and has very believable characters. The writing was smooth, the action flowed beautifully, and the scenes were wonderfully described in detail. The dialogue had me laughing out loud several times. I do see that the second book has been released by this author. I’ll be picking this up this weekened and can be certain that’ll I’ll gladly lose another day immersed in these worlds. Great job, Ms. Buroker!

About The Author

I’ve been writing fantasy novels and short stories since I was seven. I’ve been finishing them since… well, that’s a more recent development.

I’m a professional blogger for my day job, and I live in the Seattle area (“area” is code for “I couldn’t afford a house within twenty miles of the city limits and my neighbors have alpacas”). I have two vizslas who are as spoiled as most people’s kids. Occasionally they let me leave the house to play tennis, go to the coffee shop, take a yoga class, or plot with co-conspirators on how best to take over the world. (One of those items may be untrue, but I won’t tell you which.)

I’ve been publishing web content and blogging for a living since 2004. Before that I worked for other people. It wasn’t nearly as fun. I was even an enlisted soldier in the army for a few years, which had it’s fun moments but was mostly about getting up way earlier than I like and doing grunt work (they liked it if you actually grunted while doing it…).

As I was saying before I distracted myself, I’m working for myself these days. My main hobby, and the reason for this blog, is writing fantasy.

I’ve had short stories published here and there, but I never had much interest in stalking querying agents (too much like applying for a job with ten thousand applicants). I did want to get my work out there for anyone who might enjoy reading it. Thanks to the e-publishing revolution, I’m now able to make this happen, and, as with my day job, I can do it on my own terms. More fun that way. Really.

Thank you for considering today’s Book Of The Day – Lindsay Buroker and ENT appreciate it.
