In a world where parasites create new human races, Elei leads a peaceful life — until a mysterious attack on his boss sends him fleeing with a bullet in his side. Pursued for a secret he does not possess and with the fleet at his heels, he has but one thought: to stay alive. His pursuers aren’t inclined to sit down and talk, although that’s not the end of Elei’s troubles. The two powerful parasites inhabiting his body, at a balance until now, choose this moment to bring him down, leaving Elei with no choice but to trust in people he hardly knows. It won’t be long before he realizes he must find out this deadly secret – a secret that might change the fate of his world and everything he has ever known – or die trying.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

I loved Chrystalla Thoma’s imagination and constant action and had to know what happened next. I was not disappointed and found myself stealing moments to finish Rex Rising. It was exciting from the first page…

I was drawn to this story immediately after reading Dioscuri because the author has such a brilliant imagination and her descriptive style is mesmerizing. Well, Rex Rising continues the trend. The lead character is well rounded and very relatable as the rest of the cast is and the premise of the story is very original, Bradbury worthy if such a thing is possible.

The plot itself is extremely refreshing and unlike anything I have ever read. The setting is all at once a believable (if awful) human situation and at the same time much to terrifying to be real. Super duper recommend.

This was an excellent read. The fast-paced, vividly descriptive writing kept me interested from start to finish. It’s difficult to keep me interested in most Science Fiction, but REX RISING managed to make me a fan. I look forward to reading more!

This book is absolutely a “run, buy it, read it” recommendation. Trust me, Rex Rising is worth the time. With the promise of an upcoming sequel, I will definitely be keeping an eye on Chrystalla.
