The sleepy, small town of Denton, South Carolina, possesses the tranquil life Cara Baker craves, but will her reclusive tenant shake up her newfound serenity?

Newly minted librarian Cara Baker effectively cuts ties with her tumultuous life in Pittsburgh and moves down to South Carolina, where she embraces the peaceful, laid-back style of small town living. Everything seems to be falling into place when Cara finds the perfect house to round out her new plans. Well … perfect except for the immovable hermit living on the top floor. She throws caution to the wind and buys the fabulous house—hermit and all—without meeting him. Eventually, by wooing her reclusive renter with notes and mouthwatering meals, he caves and invites her up to the apartment. Preconceived notions are blown out of the water, when she finds Danny isn’t the Mr. Mole she envisioned. Sparks fly as the two begin spending time together.

Unfortunately, phone calls from her past bring Cara’s summer idyll to an abrupt halt. Will demons from a former life destroy her tranquility?

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

A very sweet story about an unusual situation and the perfect summer vacation read. Try it – you’ll love it, too. The characters are very charming as is the location. Now, all I want is that house!

I felt Cara, the heroine, really came into her own once her past comes to light and she returns to the scene of the crime, leaving the hunky Danny, her mysteriously-endowed tenant, behind–temporarily. All elements of the plot resolve in an action-filled climax, in which the bad guy gets it, but good. Read, and enjoy!

Poplar Place has a little bit of everything for readers who enjoy a full story with a lot of details, characters, and angles. You’ve got a love story, a legal battle, some mystery, friendship, supernatural, and interesting pasts. Butler does a great job of developing her characters and creating mystery at the same time.

Ellen was able to grab the reader into Cara’s story and take us along for a fun ride. I felt that I was in Denton, SC and got to know Cara’s friends and coworkers (and especially her upstairs tenant). There was whit, romance and mystery. A quick fun read!

What an awesome read! I was immediately drawn in by the mysterious tenant that came with the purchase of Cara Baker’s dream house (Danny) which turned out to be a very intriguing character indeed!
