Peyton knows the first suspect is always the husband, but Jake Ryder isn’t acting like a typical suspect. Jake truly loved his wife. So what went wrong?

Stepping into the circle of the social elite, Peyton finds that things work differently when you’re at the top. And Jake Ryder seems to be caught in the epicenter.

Ultimately, Peyton finds that you never know what darkness lurks in the human mind and that some will murder to keep that darkness hidden.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

This book has all the classic elements of a great suspense/murder mystery novel. If you love writers like James Patterson and Iris Johansen, you will enjoy reading this novel about a man who is becomes the suspect in the death of his wife, the daughter of a wealthy socialite. I highly recommend this novel.

The suspense builds right from the beginning, the characters are life-like, and there are some clever plot twists at the end of the story. Finished it in a weekend because I couldn’t put it down!

Finished in one day…excellent storyline..couldn’t wait to see what happened next. Highly recommended. Guaranteed to keep you intrigued throughout the entire book.

I enjoyed reminiscing while the author re-created the scene: the coffee shops, diners and streets of SF. But, it’s the characters who transform you into their world. And, trust me, you won’t want to leave when the last page has been read.

This was well versed, with a gradual building of suspense that kept me enthralled to the end. A sad story, but I still felt the end didn’t disappoint. Looking forward to reading another Peyton Brooks mystery!
