Now in development for film by 20th Century Fox, award-winning CyberStorm is a new classic of apocalyptic fiction that depicts, in realistic and sometimes terrifying detail, what a full scale cyber attack against present-day New York City might look like from the perspective of one family trying to survive it.

Mike Mitchell, an average New Yorker working to keep his family together, finds himself fighting just to keep them alive when a string of disasters shreds the world around them…the Internet and communication networks go down…a deadly viral epidemic rages across the country…then a monster snowstorm cuts New York off from the world.

In the chaos, rumors fly about a foreign attack, but even this becomes unimportant as Mike and his family struggle to survive in the wintry tomb of a doomed New York.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

Matthew Mather has produced a gripping modern-day page-turner that grabs you early and refuses to let go until the very end. It’s been a long time since I stayed up past my bedtime reading, sneaked extra minutes at lunch, and even missed my bus stop due to an engrossing book. If you’re looking for a realistic (if frightening) vision of what could happen in the not-too-distant future, look no further!

This may be one of the scariest novels I have read in my recent memory. It seems terrifyingly plausible and while reading I began planning an emergency stash to keep in my basement. It might make a prepper of me!! This book didn’t want you to put it down; I spent a lot of time shirking responsibilities until I finished.

There are no gimmicks here, and just enough technical information to give the story a solid grounding. The characters’ psychology — their responses to tragedy and to a situation that seems fated to end badly is well handled. I particularly appreciated that the ending wasn’t all sunshine and roses.

I think it’s fair to call this the closest to home a near-apocalyptic narrative has ever gotten for me – compelling, readable, and above all the sort of story one reads from beginning to end in a single sitting, Cyberstorm is impossible to put down, and astonishingly relatable and chilling.

The worst thing about this book is that it’s so very plausible. The best thing about this book is that it’s a great read and it’s so very plausible. The characters are just like you and me and they make careful rational decisions on how to react to crisis. I hope I’d react as well. And despite this, they get it so wrong. Chilling, eye opening, stays in your mind long after you finish reading it.
