Have you ever been haunted by a song?

In December of 2015, I watched the official video for the song Candy, by Iggy Pop, once again. I found myself replaying it several times. Something about it triggered all kinds of disturbing, creepy ideas. A psychological thriller began to take shape in my head.

Once it did, the story wouldn’t leave me alone.

So here it is.

-Caddy Rowland, Author

Meet Connor Reed: talented, handsome, and criminally insane. He just doesn’t know the last part. Or does he?

Connor had been determined to become a rock ‘n roll star ever since junior high. It didn’t matter if no one else believed in him. He had Candy. Beautiful, sexy, faithful Candy. He almost couldn’t believe she was his. She had been his girl since high school. So what if she had only been fifteen?

Guys like him never had girls as fabulous as Candy. Hell, he never even had a friend, let alone a girlfriend. In fact, guys like him didn’t get any sort of break. It seemed bad luck was determined to follow him throughout life. From his Jesus-crazy mother to his jealous band mates, betrayal became a common theme.

Each time it happened, Connor had no choice but to do something about it.

But Candy was the exception. She really loved him. Throughout the years, Candy never stopped loving him; she never stopped believing.

Then the unthinkable happened. And, once again, he was forced into action.

You know how it goes.

After all, life is crazy.

But not half as crazy as Connor Reed.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

I enjoy the authors approachable writing style and the ease in which she introduces her characters. I was especially curious about this title as I am an Iggy Pop fan and an admirer of his music. Candy had a great impact on me when it was first released and I too thought about this character and what she might have been like. Candy, in book form is a thriller that gave me the creeps but also kept me wondering what would happen next. A dark tale that sent goosebumps running up and down my arms. Not all beautiful faces are what they appear to be.

Crazy and intriguing come together in this story. Caddy Rowland has you getting inside the killers head and seeing things through their eyes. An intense and insane read that keeps you wanting more! Great read!

This a fantastic book that really puts a great perspective and description on the criminally insane and mental health disorders. I love how the book looks at nature and nurture in mental health illness and examines the boundaries professionals can struggle with when working with patients. As a mental health therapist in the correctional system, I found it highly intriguing a d compassionate.

Perfect psychological thriller, unable to put down. If you love a story with sympathetic characters that grab your attention CANDY is for you. I loved the authors ability to weave a thriller around the music scene of startup bands. I could ‘hear’ the music while reading. Get this book now and enjoy it.

About The Author

The drama of humanity. We live, die, love, hate, win and lose in a never-ending variety of ways. Often those ways are heart-wrenching. Other times they are not.

Why do people make the choices they do? Why do some abuse power? How do the powerless learn to survive? Why do a few dare to be different, while others conform–and why are so many disturbed by those who don’t? These are the questions that have always haunted author Caddy Rowland. Those questions keep her pounding away at her keyboard, creating novels for adults who color outside the lines.

Caddy has always been a nonconformist. She likes to push the proverbial envelope when it comes to characterization and world building. Heroes have warts; villains have soft spots. Main characters don’t always learn their lessons because all too often we don’t, either. There isn’t always a happy ending, but sometimes there is. Otherwise she’d be predictable.

She writes for readers who like to think and feel; who like their stories to be raw, graphic, unpredictable, “real” and sometimes brutal. For readers who like their boundaries challenged; to be shown how rarely life decisions are truly black and white, but instead shades of grey.

Think of a carnival midway with books instead of rides. She asks you make sure you’re the minimum height if you plan on riding alone. You must also leave prejudices and inhibitions behind the entry gate. If you can’t, Rowland’s reads might be a tad much for you. Don’t worry. There are plenty of safer reads out there. Just step out of the line and find a more appropriate book for your reading enjoyment.

No, Caddy Rowland’s novels aren’t for everyone. But then again, they just might be for you.
