Jaime Monroe is a young prosecutor who has a bright future with the Denver District Attorney’s office. Jaime, however, is tormented by demons from her past.

But when she learns that Leigh Roberts, a local reporter for a Denver daily newspaper, intends to have her mentally challenged daughter, Ashleigh, forcibly sterilized, something within Jaime stirs.

Whether it is anger, pity, or simply the need to do what’s right, Jaime decides to turn her back on her promising career with the DA’s office to represent Ashleigh Roberts.

With the odds stacked against them, Jaime and Ashleigh take their case to the courts in a battle that will ultimately resolve one woman’s past and one woman’s future.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

A fantastic read and one that I was engrossed with from the beginning. The author has done a fabulous job in creating characters that her readers will connect with, relate to, and continue to think about long after the book is done. …The author’s understanding of the workings of the legal system certainly shines through, and there were points at which I felt I was actually in the courtroom.

WOW! This book starts out like a double barrel shot gun blast. The author does a great job of addressing the issues of mental illness. The book is rich in detail of how several lives are affected and you also learn of the dark demons in Jaime Monroe’s life as well. An excellent book that I highly recommend to all the readers out there.

For me the back and forth collision between Roberts and Monroe in the excellently portrayed court case that follows is amongst Ferrendelli’s best work to date. The issues involved will make the reader question their own opinions and morals more than once and without giving too much away, let’s just say Jamie and Ashleigh have a tough task ahead! A five star read.

I usually don’t like to read legal dramas as a rule. However, this book surprised me in that it was well-written, about a very important topic, and about someone that I really started caring about: a teenage girl who has a severe mental disability. Who knows! I may start reading in this genre as well.

When love triumphs over fear…..a remarkable story told with such depth and sensitivity!
