A Minor is the first book to have an embedded Original Soundtrack

Clive Serkin, a teenage piano prodigy, seeks victory at the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow, and enlists the help of world-renowned pianist Clare Cardiff. She becomes his mentor and teacher, and even though she is more than twice his age, Clive finds himself falling in love with her.

After Clare is diagnosed with early-onset dementia, Clare’s estranged husband Nero takes her away from Clive to pursue further medical testing. Clive is faced with the challenge of traveling to Moscow and performing at the competition without his beloved mentor. Ultimately, he must discover if the music they share is enough to keep them together.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

I thoroughly enjoyed the story line, the character development, and Margaret’s engaging the human condition of suffering in relationship. I find it so hopeful and comforting to understand how music ministers to those who suffer from dementia and alzheimers. This novel brought hope to me.

A Minor is an extraordinary work of beauty, musical knowledge, psychological insight, and significance for memory patients. A real page-turner, rich is imagery, dialogue, and character complexity. Four years in the making, it cries out for cinematic treatment. Such an exposure could dramatically spread the message of music therapy in our country and throughout the world.

The beautifully written storyline and well-developed characters pulled me in immediately, but so did the music embedded in my eBook version. I could actually listen to the music the author described. This would be a great book to discuss in a book club.

A Minor is a fantastic reading experience because the characters are diverse and unique. All are respectfully portrayed. Also, the inclusion of music that happens in the story brings a whole new dimension to the reading experience. I strongly recommend this book.

I was very touched by this novel and it’s characters. The inclusion of music and the author’s musical knowledge was a wonderful addition. I continue to recommend this book to my friends.

I was absolutely mesmerized by all the musical detail in Ms. Philbrick’s book. As someone in the “55 and over” age group, and having mastered several musical instruments, along with the piano when growing up, I loved it! A love story, music involved, and a very candid look into memory loss – an all-too-familiar topic for so many families in our world. Can’t say enough good things about this book, except, waiting on the next one!
