The exquisite Frederica der Esslingen fled from her father’s castle to the herbalist’s cottage, vowing she could never give in to her father’s wishes and marry the man her twin sister loved. Another man, a stranger forbidden to her, touched her very soul. A man who listened when she spoke…a man with a tumble of black curls and clever lips…He understood her bold, searching heart. Yet he was denied her forever.

A Bed of Spices is a wildly romantic tale of forbidden love set in the turbulent middle ages. Solomon and Rica meet by chance at the herbalist’s cottage and fall in love despite the divisions of religion, class, and expectations — but how can they possibly find a happy ending with so many things stacked against them? Dark, beautiful and ultimately uplifting, this is a romance you won’t easily forget.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

OH MY..You know how sometimes you find a rare book and it just hits you that it is going to be amazing?? Well..”Bed of Spices” is one of those rare gems..I am telling you this story had me wild.

As usual, Barbara Samuel has kept me hooked. I’ve read three of her historical romances now and for the third time, I’ve not been able to stop reading! What a magnificent story this was. I hope I can find more gems like this!!

One of those book you will still think about from time to time, a book where you can`t help remembering scenes and reliving them in your mind. This is truly a great romance and one that I can recommend with my whole heart!

I’ve never read anything by Ms. Samuel before, but I will be looking for more! Even though, this book centered around younger characters it was mesmerizing! It was like I could feel their chemistry through the words, really well done. Fabulously done, suspense and romance all in one! Would definitely recommend!

The author spent a lot of time on the characters and their emotions. She made them real. The plot was very original, with circumstances different than most historical romances. I liked her take on the time period, and the way of life she was portraying. Very well done!
