A real hero can protect and serve, but a true hero knows how to love.

As an NYPD officer, Benjamin Stone is married to his job, determined to clean up the drug-infested streets. His partner, Rob, always has his back—except when Rob and his girlfriend, Andrea, play matchmaker at his expense. On Ben’s birthday, they’re at it again. Andrea’s friend is exactly Ben’s type, even if he stubbornly will never admit it. But it’s not the lithe brunette’s looks that intrigues Ben; it’s the hurt in her eyes.

Ella Parker is bright, beautiful, kind—and, thanks to one horrific night, severely damaged. She’d rather be training for her black belt or watching TV in her favorite pair of pajamas than be dragged out on a blind date. Sure enough, Ben swaggers into the club, locks onto Ella, and claims he’s not interested—despite the irresistible chemistry between them. So Ella decides two can play at that game. But when her dangerous past comes back to haunt her, Ben will break all the rules of seduction to keep her safe.

“Written in the fifties but relevant today in understanding North Korea.” -NWreturn

Korea, early September, 1953.

The armistice had been signed over a month before.

Yet not every American was free to leave behind that conflict and return to their homeland.

Fifty prisoners sat on the hard-packed ground listening to the same long-winded lecture of communist propaganda that they had heard countless times before.

But this one was different — this would be their last one — they would soon be headed home.

Duane Thorin’s brilliant fictionalized account of life as a prisoner of war through the Korean War takes the reader from the start of the groups imprisonment through to their last seconds of incarceration.

Drawing upon his personal experiences, as Thorin had been a POW for nineteenth months through the war, he recounts countless encounters and episodes that occurred to him and the men around him as they fought to survive the tough conditions they found themselves in.

This book is a remarkable account of the psychological and physical torture that men were subjected to as prisoners during the course of the Korean War. It is essential reading for anyone interested in that conflict and for people wishing to find out more about the sheer fortitude of the men who survived it.

Duane Thorin joined the Navy in 1939, and became a flying C.P.O. in 1943. He was also a test pilot and a carrier-qualified pilot. In 1949, he was designated helicopter pilot #216. With his helicopter he made more than 130 rescues in the Korean theater. He was shot down and captured near Wonsan on February 7, 1952 and interred by the Chinese in Camp Annex #2 on the Yalu River. His book A Ride to Panmunjom was drawn from those experiences and was published in 1956. He passed away in 2002.

Jeff Shear’s complete Jackson Guild series (Volumes 1-3) is now available as a box set — and the deal couldn’t be better for fans of intelligence thrillers set in post-apocalyptic worlds. Readers who devour spy novels from authors like Tom Clancy, Graham Greene, Len Deighton, and John Le Carré will relish Shear’s dark psychological adventures, full of shadowy prose that packs a mean punch.

Investigator Jackson Guild is as audacious as he is shrewd, taking readers on a whirlwind pursuit from each thrilling scene to the next. Old-guard spy fans will appreciate Shear’s modern take on the genre, as unique voice emerging amid the chaos of a worst-case scenario American future.

Before the month ends, a nuclear bomb will be detonated in an American city. The CIA knows that much, but not where the bomb is or who has it. In this fast-moving political thriller, our hero Jackson Guild, an investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, suddenly finds himself with the FBI “so far up my nose their boots were on my chin.” Without a backward look, the feds throw him into the fray, and Guild doesn’t know what he’s up against. What he does know: his apartment’s been searched and burglarized, his friends are getting killed, and he’s being manipulated by his own government.

Jackson Guild is aboard a chopper descending over Washington, D.C., and he does not like what he sees: the charred rubble of nuclear holocaust. Terrorists have detonated a Hiroshima-sized bomb over the nation’s capital. The army calls Guild in for a classified meeting, revealing that the bomb that hit the District was actually smaller than the one they knew was lost– which means the bigger bomb is still out there–ready to detonate at any moment.

Guild’s charged with investigating the firm that’s uncovered the source of the nuclear attack—to find out why they’re hiding their findings. With Irish whisky as his only solace, he discovers the indictment he’s been ordered to probe only hits the tip of the iceberg. Because when an explosion rips through Manhattan outside the Waldorf Astoria—while none other than Vladimir Putin is partying inside—he finds himself not only tangled in an intricate web of investigation, but on a list of assassination suspects.
