“The characters seem very real and believable and the locale is accurately portrayed.” -scholar

The once fun loving Clarissa Max, an under thirty single female reporter who loses a good life in the big apple city thanks to a pink slip, tells a story about the mystic spinning of fateful threads that takes place before the economic boom of the 1990’s. A serendipity that lands her in the northwest central Florida Cracker antecedent town of Citrusville during the rainy season comes with a haunting that changes her destiny.

In this out of the way hamlet, where Ed’s Diner is the meeting place for an aging Cracker clientele who trade stories about the fate of sinners that won’t change their ways, a single female doesn’t live alone, and this freelance hack writer with a rolodex bemoans her main priority: keeping the tin roof over her head even if it leaks–she thinks fate is working in her favor when she has the opportunity to seek some good returns.

The forgetful old timer Henry Benson, who knows the winds of progress bring more than the scattering of oak leaves from the town’s ancient oak trees, believes in being of service to others, and he claims it makes him feel good. In the hope for much better days, Clarissa believes luck is on her side when she helps old timer Nellie Charmin, who spouts about a Paradise Taxi that takes the willing to change just where they have to go, but the problem of the man left behind who won’t let go becomes an ongoing dilemma after lust turns into something else that may be love.

Among the cast of characters Clarissa introduces, is Letty Lovelace, a retiree on a quest for a man who is a great traveling companion, but this fiercely independent snowbird from New Jersey who insists love is a thing for readers of romances also has a friend called Max, who is the catalyst of an unlikely change and fuels this tale that leads Clarissa to another direction. One life ends and another begins with a journey far away, but like the oak tree nesting birds flying north and south, east and west, Clarissa remembers the oak tree branches are in the place where time stops, and by telling this story, she can still come back to where she knows she belongs.

Grave Passage explores crime on the high seas, and introduces a valiant and original protagonist. Henry Grave is an investigator for the Association of Cruising Vessel Operators. A former P.O.W., Henry is as cunning as he is charming, and at 84 years of age, he fits right in with his fellow passengers. When retired FBI profiler Robert Samson is murdered onboard the cruise liner Contessa Voyager, Henry Grave is sent to investigate. Samson was giving a series of lectures on cold case crimes he felt he could crack. But he got cracked first.

Henry has just five days before Voyager reaches Miami. There, the FBI will question the passengers, but the case will have grown cold and the killer will walk free unless Henry can find him first. With the help of a television actress, a cosmonaut, and a Venezuelan general fighting extradition, Henry draws on skills honed in a Nazi prison camp to track down a couple of passengers who might have their own reasons for taking this particular cruise, reasons unrelated to the sumptuous meals, delightful shipboard activities, and exciting ports of call.
