On Australia’s island state, more than one species of Tasmanian Devil exists…Beneath the surface of Nina Holt’s perfect marriage lurks a life of terror inflicted upon her by her politically powerful husband Michael and his brother Greg, a sadistic detective. For over a decade they have managed to keep Nina imprisoned, using her to satisfy their every whim. Worse still, the only light in her life—her 9-year-old son, Sam—considers Michael a hero.

When Sam imitates Michael’s violence by lashing out at her, Nina knows it’s time for both of them to escape before Sam truly turns into the monster Michael is grooming him to become. After crashing her car in her haste to escape, kind motorist Case Herder offers her help. Unaware that he has his own plans for her, Nina accepts, igniting a deadly game of cat and mouse as they flee across Tasmania with Sam.

As Michael and Greg relentlessly hunt them down to Cradle Mountain, Nina finds herself with nowhere left to run. Cornered, she has no choice but to face evil head-on.

“Nicholls has a distinct and powerful voice. Steeped in history, this novel deeply penetrates the surface of a complex era.” -Sammie V.

A fictionalized true story of life in the Deep South during the time of Jim Crow Law, and before Roe vs. Wade. Women were supposed to keep quiet and serve, abortion was illegal, adoption difficult, and racism rampant. The discovery of an old ledger opens a window into the dynamics of the 1950s-60s. Unspoken secrets are shared between Beatrice, The Good Doctor’s wife, and Moses Grier, their black handyman.

The Grier’s daughter, Althea, suffers a tragedy that leaves her family silent and mournful. Her brother, Nathan, a medical student, looks for answers from a community that is deaf, blind, and dumb. A summer romance between Nathan and Sybil, an independent, high-spirited, white woman, leaves more unresolved. Nathan is thrust into the center of the Civil Rights Movement. Sybil is torn between living the mundane life of her peers, or a life that involves fastening herself to a taboo relationship. Witness social progress through the eyes of those who lived it!

Fallen

My name is Isra. I am one of two remaining angels. You see, when God vanished, Lucifer threw open his gates and unleashed his macabre horde on Earth. Great fiery fissures collapsed cities and rural areas alike, the very ground roiling like a stormy sea of unbearable heat. Angels fell like burning rain from the sky, as they tried to repel the attack and protect humankind.

Twisted foul demons poured from the fissures, an unending torrent of misery that corrupted all they touched. Monstrous jaws bit and tore tirelessly until the rivers flowed with blood. We failed. Earth fell into ruin, its oceans and rivers drying into parched wastelands and its survivors left despondent. Most despaired so intensely that they embraced the demons, seeking refuge from anyone.

Desperate for water, humans began imbibing blood to sustain their thirst. I call those individuals blood drinkers. Food is sparse, and the animals are all but gone, eaten or slaughtered, so cannibalism is prevalent as well. The other angel, Hale, and I are all that are left. We gather remaining survivors that still hold their sanity and morals. We have separated them into two groups as a failsafe into earthen grottos that still miraculously contain fresh water.

Hale believes that we may not have our wings any longer, but it is still our duty to protect mankind, that we must at least try to preserve the goodness of God’s children. I remain unconvinced. After all, God abandoned us all. Why should we continue to serve His will?
