Penelope
by Anya Wylde
Rating: 4.2 Stars
Genre: Regency Romantic Comedy
Price: $0.99

Leaving behind the rural charms of Finnshire, Miss Penelope Fairweather arrives in London with hope in her heart and a dream in her eye. The dowager, no less, has invited her for a season in London, where she will attempt to catch a husband.

Thus begins our heroine’s tale as she attempts to tackle the London season with all her rustic finesse. Unfortunately, her rustic finesse turns out to be as delicate as a fat bear trying to rip apart a honeycomb infested with buzzing bees.

What follows is a series of misadventures, love affairs, moonlit balls, fancy clothes, fake moustaches, highwaymen, sneering beauties, pickpockets, and the wrath of a devilishly handsome duke.

He comes from a dysfunctional home where the brothers were involved with violence and drug use. She comes from a supportive, loving family environment. Both are Mormons. Both served missions for their church. She works in a drug rehab facility as a counselor. He comes to the facility on a court-ordered drug rehab program.

It is where they meet: Dino DiLello, the charismatic and natural leader, too often on the wrong side of the law and Misty Squire, the pretty blonde social worker eighteen years his junior, who has a firm commitment to doing what’s right.

Dino and Misty are drawn together in a powerful love that surprises them both. They marry and face a bright and hopeful future. Dino has left his lawless past behind him. Or has he? The night that changes everything brings up troubling questions.

As Misty comes to terms with her worst fears, she must also decide at what cost to pursue the truth behind that night. And somehow she must learn to live with a grief that seems to break her heart beyond all healing.

I’ll Have The Soup And Salad

When you envision the perfect bowl of steamy, delicious soup, what comes to mind? Is it the soup your mother or grandmother used to make from scratch using fresh vegetables and fresh beef or chicken simmered in a savory broth with just the right mixture of herbs and garlic? Maybe your dream soup is a thick, rich bowl of New England Clam Chowder. Or maybe it’s a nice can of condensed soup that you add a can of water to and Voila – you have your favorite soup. What? Scratch that last one because you won’t find any of that in this book. You will, however, find the first two. You will find 26 soup recipes with some of the classic soups.

Some are fairly quick to make, but some take time. I do not apologize for that. If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right. Plan ahead and make the ones that take longer to prepare on the weekends. Most of these soups freeze beautifully, so it is the “cook once, serve three times” philosophy. You’ll thank me for that once you get the hang of it. You will also find 12 recipes in the salad section.

In addition to the salad recipes, there is a section there called Popular Salad Ingredients that has over 30 items and suggestions of ingredients to add to a basic salad, complete with a nutritional analysis of each ingredient so you can make an informed choice of what to add.

The recipes in this book will have the number of servings, preparation time and total time from start to finish. Your time may vary if you are just starting to learn to cook. There is also a nutritional analysis with each recipe calculated using the USDA database, Version SR-24. A nutritional analysis is very important if you have any diet restrictions or if you are trying to lose weight. Cooking Tips and Techniques have been included to help new cooks get their bearings in the kitchen. I hope seasoned cooks can pick up a useful tidbit or two also.
