Kindle For Blackberry Review

by Greg on February 26, 2010

While surfing around the web this morning I found a review for the Kindle Blackberry App that I wanted to share with you. There are some interesting points worth mentioning here.

The first thing is that it is pointed out on the Amazon website that the app is for U.S. customers only. In the review, written by an author in the U.K., they mention that Blackberry owners outside the U.S. can still download and use the app. The only thing that they can’t do is buy books. This is not really a problem since they can buy books through their Kindle or computer and then the books will be available to view using the app.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that they say that the Kindle for Blackberry app is available for download for “every ‘Berry since the original Bold”. Actually there are only certain Blackberrys that are supported for this app. Here’s the list: Supported Blackberry Devices

For the most part the review is positive. Here are some of the things that they mentioned about the app:

It’s as fast as you’d hope, with instant page turns, quick load times and perfect syncing between devices, remembering what page we were on and skipping straight to it on Kindle for PC and back again.

I downloaded it and then deleted it. The font size is fine for reading but
1) I would have to turn off my BB screensaver;
2) the physical sizes of the BB and screen are too small and it felt unnatural to read an entire book on it;
3) it would probably drain quickly the battery life on my BB.
If I had the BB Storm, which has a larger screen size than my BB Bold, then MAYBE I’d be more inclined to read a book on it.
Going to stick to the Kindle for now.
