Kindle For Android App Now Available

by Greg on June 30, 2010

If you have a Droid phone there is a new, free Kindle For Android app available now. There are over 620,000 books available to read on this, and on every Kindle app (as well as the Kindle too, of course).

Amazon had this to say about the new app:

“Our customers tell us they love the convenience of having their Kindle library with them everywhere and their reading synchronized across multiple devices,” said Dorothy Nicholls, director, Amazon Kindle. “With Kindle for Android, customers can choose from a vast selection of over 620,000 books to read on their Android-powered phone, no matter where they are – on the bus, waiting for a cab, or in between meetings. Kindle for Android and the rest of the free Kindle apps are the perfect companions for readers who don’t have their Kindle with them or don’t yet own a Kindle.”

The Android App has the same features as the other apps (Blackberry, iPhone, etc.) which include:

  • Search and browse over 620,000 books.
  • Read the first chapter for free before buying.
  • Access previously purchased Kindle books stored at Amazon.
  • Synchronize last page read between the Droid app and all other Kindle devices and apps.
  • Customize font color, font size and background.
  • Read in portrait or landscape.
  • Adjust brightness of screen.

In the near future you’ll also be able to purchase books directly from the app and do full text searches.

I have the android kindle app on my phone and I must say I do love having it and it is so cool to have my book right there on my phone. The android kindle app and also another app called Aldiko is what got me interested in reading again. I haven’t been big on reading since I was a young man. I just turned 40 and I am just getting into the ebook world. Having the Kindle on my phone is great but I find it runs my battery down pretty quick. I am looking at buying a Kindle 3 very soon. I see a lot of reading ahead for me. If it weren’t for the Kindle and ebooks I might not have ever gotten into reading again. It’s just cool and fun with the Kindle.
