Kindle 3

As I’m writing this post, I’m sure most of you have already heard that Amazon released the Kindle 3 last week. Unfortunately, I was out of town when the announcement was made so that’s why I’m just getting this post out to you now. Of course, I’ve been waiting for the release of the new Kindle all summer and it happens while I don’t have access to my computer:). Anyway, here’s the info on the new Kindle 3.

The new Kindles are sold out but if you are going to get one order it now – first come first serve.

There are some pretty cool improvements that have been made on the new Kindle plus you have a choice of getting the $139 version or the $189 version and the difference between the two is not very much – as a matter of fact here are the only differences:

  • The $139 version weighs less – 8.5 ounces vs. 8.7 ounces
  • The battery life on the $139 version is longer (with wireless on) – 3 weeks vs. 10 days
  • The $139 version is available only in the U.S. while the $189 version is available in over 100 countries
  • The $139 version does NOT have free 3G wireless while the $189 version does. If you have questions about the 3G and wifi here’s a discussion on the Amazon community board that covers this and should answer any questions you have: W-Fi only vs Free 3G

Here are some of the improvements/new features of the new Kindle 3:

  • All new high contrast E-ink screen
  • New and improved fonts
  • New design
  • 17% lighter
  • Battery life up to 1 month
  • Double the storage – up to 3,500 books
  • Built in wi-fi
  • 20% faster page turns
  • Enhanced PDF reader
  • New webkit-based browser

For all the details (and there’s a lot more that I haven’t put here) on the new Kindle 3 go here: The New Kindle 3
