Important News About Free Kindle Books

by Greg on December 16, 2011

This is a repost from 12/13/11. Sorry for being redundant but I am still getting emails about the free books that are only free for a short period of time. Please make sure the price says “Kindle Price $0.00” and not “Prime members $0.00”. IF IT DOES NOT SAY “KINDLE PRICE $0.00” IT IS NOT FREE. The books are free at the time they are posted but can go back to full price at any time – including before the daily email goes out.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions (and complaints) about the free books that have been coming out the past few days. I’ll try to clear it up a little bit here.

The main reason for the recent surge of free books – that are free for only a short time – is Amazon’s new program called KDP Select.

From Amazon:
“With KDP Select, authors and publishers will also have access to a new set of promotional tools, starting with the option to promote their enrolled titles for free for up to five days every 90 days.”

“By choosing KDP Select, independent authors and publishers have an opportunity to make money in a whole new way and reach the growing audience of Amazon Prime members,” said Russ Grandinetti, Vice President of Kindle Content. “A short 90-day commitment allows authors and publishers to experiment at very low risk. In addition, free promotions are a new tool for KDP Select authors, and we hope to add more such tools over time.”

So, some of the books you may have missed, might become free again in the near future since authors can make their books free for up to 5 days every 90 days.

While it would be nice the have the books free for longer, you can now see why many of them are not. The good thing is, there are a lot more freebies now than there ever has been so make sure to get the books ASAP – while they’re still free.

Please, make sure to check the price before buying. Make sure the price says “Kindle Price $0.00″ and not “Prime Members $0.00″ unless, of course, you’re a Prime member.

Here’s an important note for the daily email readers. If you read your email the day after it comes out, many of the books will not be free any more since they were only free for one day (or less) – the day the email came out. Also, if a free book posting was made after the daily email came out, that post will not show up until the next day and those books may not be free any more. It is very important to check the price before clicking the “BUY” button.
