If your mother offered you 8 million dollars to have a baby, would you do it?

Jamie Jacobson doesn’t have a lot of faith in love, except when it comes to her Jimmy Choo shoes. Her brother Danny has two loves; his barely existent acting career and his ability to pick up women. But life is about to take a wild turn for these two dysfunctional but lovable siblings now that their mother has just won the lottery.

Frankie, a longtime widow has wanted grandchildren for years. Now she’s prepared to pay cash for them. When Frankie presents her son and daughter each with a contract promising $8 million dollars if he or she can produce a child in the next twelve months (DNA tested, of course), Jamie and Danny each begin a frantic search for a person to help them reproduce.

Come along on their desperate, outrageous and hilarious journeys where fake seductions, ovulation kits and a tarot-card reader are replacing condoms, the pill and fun, meaningless hook-ups. They hit a couple big bumps in the road that have nothing to do with their lack of diaper changing experience, but a lot to do with their hearts.

Now they face the choice of their lives. Give in to love? Or go for the JACKPOT?

It’s everyone’s nightmare. You’re home alone one night and something wakes you. Was it a noise? Or do you just have a feeling that something’s not quite right? Sleep-befuddled Jonathan Fairchild doesn’t really believe it’s a burglar. It’s more likely to be his wife, who walked out on him two days ago.

Yes, it’s Liz, back with her tail between her legs, he thinks as he creeps downstairs. Still, strange she hasn’t put the lights on… and that’s when the man shoves him up against the wall and puts a gun to his head, whispering “Your time to die…

It’s the start of the longest night of Jonathan’s life. He has been “chosen” and it’s the Intruder’s duty to carry out the execution. But before he kills him, he needs Jonathan to “confess”. Jonathan protests he’s innocent, he hasn’t done anything, it’s all a terrible mistake; but as the Intruder says, “everyone’s guilty of something”.

Jonathan begs the Intruder for mercy, but the gunman is unrelenting. Jonathan begins to suspect that there may be darker reasons for his predicament; that this is in fact a game of psychological torture and that Liz is behind it.

As the Intruder interrogates him, Jonathan is forced to revisit his relationship with her: the seduction, his early obsessive love for her and her gradual disenchantment. But what did he ever do to his wife that warrants a death sentence?

“Because It Makes My Heart Beat Faster” explores the heights and depths of romantic love – and the terrible things that people can do to each other in its name.

Thank you for all the work you put into posting the reading material for various genres. Although my preference is mystery/suspense/thrillers, I have broaden my reading selection thanks to the many free books listed. I now have what my friends call a “downloading addiction.” Therapy would require me reading the books, but it is so much fun downloading. I am at 810 and counting. Thanks again!
