It is the spring of 1968 in Belfast, Northern Ireland and James Kirkpatrick has just lost his father under suspicious circumstances, Casey Riordan is released from prison after five years and Pamela O’Flaherty has crossed an ocean and a lifetime of memories to find the man she fell in love with as a little girl. All three lives are on a collision course with each other against the backdrop of the burgeoning civil rights movement and a nation on the brink of revolution.

They come from disparate backgrounds- Jamie a wealthy industrialist whose life is like an imperfect but many faceted jewel- brilliant, flawed and with a glitter that is designed to distract the observer. Casey- a card carrying member of the Irish Republican Army, who must face the fact that five years away has left him a stranger, a misfit in his own neighbourhood where not everyone is sympathetic to a convicted rebel. Pamela- who has come to Ireland in search of a memory and a man who may not have existed in the first place.

Through it all runs the ribbon of a love story; love of country, the beginning love of two people unable to resist the pull of each another regardless of the cost to themselves and those around them and the selfless love of one man who no longer believes himself capable of such emotion.

Ultimately this is the story of Ireland herself, of how nation is bound to one’s identity, woven into the weft of all we become. And whether, finally, freedom and peace can walk down the same road, hand in hand.

“In the last ten days, I’ve resigned myself to three things: Your kid’ll break his arm the day after you lose your job; you should always look a gift horse in the mouth; and nothing, not even ridding the world of demons, is as straightforward as you’d think.”

Kelly McGinnis has spent her adult life trying to do the right thing, but as a newly down-sized mother of twins and the wife of a man living with Multiple Sclerosis, she also knows that trying isn’t always enough.

While interrupting a scene of police brutality, Kelly unwittingly releases a real, live demon. After she manages to kill the creature through gut instinct and blind luck, she is approached to join a secret group of demon hunters who reveal an underworld of monsters and magic.

Against her better judgment, Kelly accepts the lucrative, if bizarre, offer; but when she meets Umber, a compelling incubus with an unexpectedly human story, she learns that the truth is far stranger and more terrifying than she imagined.

Casey Donovan has issues: hair, height and uncontrollable trips to the 19th century! And now this –she’s accidentally taken Nate Mackenzie, the cutest boy in the school, back in time. Awkward.

Protocol pressures her to tell their 1860 hosts that he is her brother and when Casey finds she has a handsome, wealthy (and unwanted) suitor, something changes in Nate. Are those romantic sparks or is it just “brotherly” protectiveness?

When they return to the present, things go back to the way they were before: Casey parked on the bottom of the rung of the social ladder and Nate perched high on the very the top. Except this time her heart is broken. Plus, her best friend is mad, her parents are split up, and her younger brother gets escorted home by the police. The only thing that could make life worse is if, by some strange twist of fate, she took Nate back to the past again.

Which of course, she does.

@Tom Barnes Please thank these folks for all the FREE books they post everyday. Just demanding the genres you are interested in and demeaning the genres you do not like is very rude and selfish. If you have specific genres you prefer; you can always go to Amazon and search for the free books for the Kindle in those genres on your own.

I recently enjoyed a “fun” free book by Jana DeLeon, and then purchased three more of her books. I love reading new authors, and the authors benefit, when you buy some of their other books. ENT is a super service. Thanks so much!
