Alexandra Martin didn’t believe in fairytales…

Alex has always been more interested in rocks and science than stories about princesses and magic. Now she’s far too busy with her summer internship at the Gem and Mineral Museum to think about children’s stories. Between avoiding her former best friend and high school baseball star, Luke Reed, and trying to hide her unrequited crush on her mentor at the museum, the real world is occupying all of her time.

…Until she walked into one.

It turns out fairytales aren’t all fun and games. A curse has turned her neat and orderly world upside down, and to break it, she bands together with a fellow intern and a recently awakened princess who’s been asleep for 900 years. Can this trio of unlikely heroines put an end to an ominous enchantment, discover true love, and keep an ancient and evil magic from being unleashed on modern-day Los Angeles?

We Never Lost Hope: A Holocaust Memoir and Love Story
by Naomi Litvin

We Never Lost Hope by Naomi Litvin is a powerful and haunting memoir and love story about her family’s lives before, during, and after the Holocaust. Told in five indelible voices, the book gives a you-are-there punch and a moving immediacy. Litvin recreates her parents’ incredible love story of a Holocaust survivor and an American Jewish GI who landed at Normandy. This book reminds readers that genocide can happen anywhere but that the strength of hope endures, even in the most horrific conditions.

“Naomi Litvin leaves all students of the Holocaust in her debt…every memoir adds to our knowledge, both of what happened, and of the emotions and feelings of that terrible era, and this memoir is no exception: it calls out to be read.” -Sir Martin Gilbert, Winston Churchill’s official biographer, and author of eighty-one books.

Base Spirits
by Ruth Barrett
Rating: 4.7 Stars
Genre: Historical Thriller
Price: $0.00 Save $2.99

In 1605, Sir Walter Calverley’s murderous rampage leaves a family shattered. The killer suffers a torturous execution… but is it truly the end? A noble Yorkshire house stands forever tarnished by blood and possessed by anguished spirits.

Some crimes are so horrific, they reverberate through the centuries.

As an unhappy modern couple vacation in the guesthouse at Calverley Old Hall, playwright Clara, and her scholar husband, Scott, unwittingly awaken a dark history. Clara is trapped and forced back in time to bear witness to a family’s bloody saga. Overtaken by the malevolent echoes, Scott is pushed over the edge from possessive husband to wholly possessed…

Inspired by a true-life drama in Shakespeare’s day, this is itself a play within a play: a supernatural thriller with a historical core.

Only one player can survive.

TESSA ON HER OWN-Self-Esteem Children’s Book (Children’s Character Education Books)
by Alyssa Chase
Rating: 5.0 Stars
Genre: Children’s Book
Price: $0.00 Save $9.99
Subject to change back to full price at any time.

Tessa, a red fox kit, is too lazy to hunt, but she can always talk her brother Rex into sharing his catch. Finally Rex’s altruism wears thin, and he declares that he’s going off on his own. Not to be outdone, Tessa goes her own way as well, eventually vying with the raccoons for the scraps in city garbage cans. Only after she is trapped overnight in a dumpster does Tessa finally face up to her indolence and resolve to change. Lest any reader miss the point, an afterword addressed to “parents and educators” pounds home the book’s didactic purpose: people “must work to live succesfully.” However, Maeno’s (Minou; Kylie’s Song) lovely watercolors, filled with botanical abilities, may redeem this heavy-handed story for some nature lovers. The illustrated endpapers add facts about flora and fauna glimpsed within.
