The truth about what happened in 1949 went to Paul Fischer’s grave… Too bad his body didn’t!

Advertising copywriter Leigh Koslow doesn’t pack heat–just a few extra pounds. And she doesn’t go looking for trouble. When she moved into her cousin Cara’s refurbished Victorian house, she wasn’t planning on discovering a corpse–certainly not one that had been embalmed ten years before. But as anyone in the small Pittsburgh borough of Avalon could tell her, her cousin’s house has a history attached. A history dating back to two mysterious deaths in the summer of 1949.

Someone wants Leigh and Cara out of the house–someone who has something to hide. But that someone doesn’t know Leigh’s impetuous cousin, and when Cara digs her heels in, Leigh looks to her old college chum, local policewoman Maura Polanski, for help. But the answers the trio find only point to more questions. Were the scandalous deaths of fifty years ago really an accident and a suicide? Or were they murder?

The nearer the women get to the truth, the more desperate someone becomes. Because some secrets are better off kept. Especially when they hit close to home!

Forsaken – A Novel of Art, Evil, and Insanity
by Andrew Van Wey
Rating: 4.4 Stars
Genre: Horror/Suspense
Price: $0.00 Save $4.99
Subject to change back to full price at any time.

For art professor Daniel Rineheart, life’s a dream. His children’s laughter fills the halls of his home, and his wife’s embrace lulls him to sleep. But summer’s end heralds the arrival of three disturbing omens. A lost bird, thousands of miles from home. A beautiful student with whom he shares an insidious past.

…and a mysterious painting, dripping with malignant secrets.

It wasn’t the strangest creation he’d ever seen, but close. A girl with a wounded, sack-like face; a boy with pinhole eyes and a cruel sneer; and a distant shadow peering out from behind a dying tree, all stared back at him from that perfect painted canvas.

Yet it wasn’t only the subjects that challenged him, but the riddle that came with it.

“Here in Art, Denial.”

Four words shrouding a secret that awakens a surreal nightmare. Where objects from his past manifest in canvas and oil. Where painted clocks tick-tock away in the dark hours before dawn, and a missing dog whimpers from between the walls. Where the painted children leave the canvas to stalk the halls of his once quiet and happy home.

And where all answers lead back to a blind artist and an impossible creation, one that threatens to destroy his family and devour his sanity.

Are you a late-blooming adult? Congratulations, you’re in remarkable company!

Julia Child savored her first French meal at age 36. It changed her life and ours—there’d be no Food Network without her! Edgar Rice Burroughs sold his stories Tarzan and John Carter of Mars at 37. The latter will be a major movie next year, a century later. Bertha Benz learned how to drive at 39. She made the world’s first road trip. Susan Boyle electrified the world with her singing voice at age 48. English character actress Liz Smith got her first break at 49. She recently co-starred with Johnny Depp.

Bram Stoker wrote Dracula at age 50. There’s a granny who took up hip-hop dancing at age 64, one who became a famous nightclub DJ at 68, and one who her ran her first marathon at age 86. She’s still running.

These are some of the fascinating people you’ll meet in this compilation from the popular LaterBloomer.com blog. In the garden of life, a “late-blooming” flower blossoms right on time!

Like several of the free books I’ve gotten, but most that are listed are suspense or horror or fantacy. Would like to see more that are good basic novels.
