Free Kindle Books – 4 More Books For 2-15-11

by Greg on February 15, 2011

Buttermilk MoonHere are 4 new free Kindle books. The books fall under the categories of fiction, historical literature, and drama. The first two are Smashwords books that require you to use the code (after the titles) to get the books for free. If you haven’t downloaded any of the Smashwords books yet, try a couple of them out – I’ve had some very good feedback on them so far. Here’s how to get books from Smashwords onto your Kindle

The last two books are for free pre-orders and, as always, I would suggest getting the pre-orders asap as they do not last long for free. They are both parts of a complete book that sells for $7.99.

When you go to download the free book make sure the price is $0.00 or it will NOT be free. This is why you need to download the books asap, while they’re still free. If you are outside of the United States, these books may not be free.

Buttermilk Moon by Randy Ray Wise Save $3.99 use code YE37Z

In 1944, a fifteen-year-old Texas boy fakes his identity, joins the Army and runs away to Europe, seeking his father who’s lost in the war.

At the height of the Second World War, George Cooper’s father is captured by the Wehrmacht. After a devastating storm, George leaves behind a mother, grandmother and girlfriend on their Texas farm and joins the Army to search for his missing father in Europe. With no training and borrowed dog tags, he finds himself in a place both foreign and frightening. George finds his way to Germany with help from a Belgian boy and a secret German book, wrecking a plane and freeing a trainload of Jewish prisoners along the way.

Back home his mother struggles to hold the family together. An eccentric aunt and boozing uncle test her patience. A grandmother grieving her dead husband comforts Sarabelle, George’s girlfriend, who has come to live with the Coopers after the storm and the loss of her family.

Set during the greatest struggle of the twentieth century, Buttermilk Moon is a distillation of what it means to be an American—a mythical connection to the land and family and mystic communion with past generations. George’s quest evokes the human will to survive, the human capacity for suffering and the perseverance—at any cost—to be near those we love.

These shorts are based on actual events, and parts from my novels. Sebring, the Rainman is based on a race my son, Beaux, actually competed. Night of the Virgin is a combination of events that happened to me in high school. I eventually married her at midnight, in a jail, in Mexico. Some of the dialog from Flight 223 occurred when I was on the flight from Seattle to Houston during the 911.
