On September 29, 1982, seven people in Chicago died after taking Extra Strength Tylenol capsules laced with cyanide. Officials have long cited the scarcity of physical evidence and apparent lack of motive to explain why they never solved the Tylenol murders. However, new revelations and information not previously disclosed tell a very different story of a crime that should have been solved.

In a story both fascinating and dramatic in its warnings, The Tylenol Mafia rips away the facade of an investigation that J&J CEO James Burke labeled “A demonstration without parallel of government and business working with the news media to help protect the public.” This gripping, meticulously documented expose’ unearths the troubling details of an investigation corrupted by well-connected corporate executives and politically motivated government officials who simply buried the truth inside a shadow legal system inaccessible to everyday Americans.

The Private Confessions of Perfect Strangers

A collection of six poignant, sometimes heart-wrenching, sometimes heart-warming and frequently witty first person short stories from award-winning author Andrew Biss

They say never judge a book by its cover but it’s something many of us are apt to do at some point or another. Judging a person by their appearance is equally unwise, as none of us can know the personal turmoil behind the public façade of a perfect stranger. But what if we could…

Each of these stories juxtapose the public face with the private, conflicted person behind it.

Scenes of Strangeness
by Philip Chen
Rating: 4.2 Stars
Genre: Humor/Cartoons
Price: $0.00 Save $4.95
Subject to change back to full price at any time.

Scenes of Strangeness brings together in one Box Set cartoons from There is Strangeness in the Universe and the anti-holiday, Happy Holidaze and Other Tragedies of Life. In addition, a bonus pack of cartoons not in the previous two collections is included.

Phil Chen started cartooning at age 63, over a weekend when his cardiologist asked to spend a weekend avoiding exercise of any kind (not hard to do in Phil’s case) while he arranged for an angiogram. Phil’s doctor thought that he was going to burst some pipes or something. So with nothing to do, Phil surfed the web and came across an astronomical theory which said that a parallel universe filled with strange matter has to exist in order to keep ours in cosmic balance. This was a very intriguing concept. As he thought about what this strange universe might look like, Phil started sketching scenes of strangeness. Without any formal art or cartoon training, he embarked on a journey of recording the inhabitants of this parallel world.

Since 2007, his cartoons were used by the New York Times as part of their hyperlocal web paper, The Local, and have appeared on numerous forums. One of his cartoons even made it into the print edition of the New York Times. One of his cartoons was used by CNN as an officially designated iReport.

Phil’s work has been compared to, among others, James Thurber, Gary Larson and Bill Watterson cartoons. Rick Parker, who is known as the comic genius behind MTV’s Beavis and Butthead Comic Book, calls Phil a “very dangerous man.”

Hope you enjoy them.
