Lady Jane Harsham has returned to society after her bereavement. Once wed to a gentleman in his dotage, she now finds herself not only a widow but in need of financial security. When an opportunity to write, and be paid for, an advice column in The London Chronicle is offered her, Jane accepts at once. Some of the letters are banal and straightforward but there is one persistent letter writer who asks questions about courting and love… something that Jane is not entirely sure how to answer.
