The Isle of Kin

To the outside world, plagued by poverty and death, the Isle of Kin is a paradise, a tantalizing utopia where wealth, beauty, and harmony reign. The Kinsmen, the island’s enigmatic inhabitants, have guarded their prized black opal mines for centuries, never allowing an outsider to set foot on their sacred land.

August, a struggling laundromat bookkeeper from the decaying Mainland, discovers he is a descendant of a defected Kinsman and earns a coveted invitation to the island. To him, it feels like a dream, his one shot at a better life.

Once in paradise, however, August can never leave. Desertion is punishable by death. And, as he learns more about the Isle of Kin and the ways of the Kinsmen, an eerie reality sets in. The rules are absolute. The perfection, a mere façade.
