Julia Stone’s past comes creeping back when she discovers a strange silver ring, and three men want to help her–but choosing the wrong one could cost not only her heart but her soul.

Dr. Pamela Forrest is determined to bring Julia’s memories to the surface, hoping to heal Julia’s panic disorder. The therapist keeps returning Julia to a night twenty-three years ago when Julia was four. A night of hooded figures, strange chants, pain, and blood. The night her father disappeared from the face of the earth.

But the line between the past and the present begins to blur when Julia finds a silver skull ring that bears the name “Judas Stone.” Someone is leaving strange messages inside her house, even though the door is locked. The handyman, who has a key, spends a lot of time in the woods behind her house. Her boyfriend Mitchell becomes distant and violent. And the cop who investigated her father’s disappearance has followed her to the small Appalachian town of Elkwood.

Now she has a head full of memories, but she doesn’t know which are real and which are the creations of Dr. Forrest. The shadows of Julia’s panic are growing larger and darker. But succumbing to madness seems safer than heeding the whispers that claim ownership of her body and soul.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

The Skull Ring is a masterfully crafted, psychologically intense, and truly fascinating story, a real page-turner. I highly recommend it. The one drawback: you may suffer from sleep deprivation for a while since you won’t be able to put it down. Turn on that espresso machine and lock the door!

Nicholson’s masterly descriptive writing style creates a chilling tale set in a beautiful locale and pulls you into the story. You don’t want to miss this one by Nicholson; he demonstrates his ability to branch out into other genres in a tremendous way with this book.

Scott Nicholson’s strong and vivid writing draws the reader deep into the story, but it’s the writer’s deft handling of pace that makes this a winner for me. As the tension ramped up, I often found myself holding my breath. Yet at other times, I couldn’t help but smile at the gems of understated humor.

“The Skull Ring” was very suspenseful. A leading theme through-out the book is how do you know who to trust; are you your own unreliable narrator in life? I highly recommend this book to lovers of horror/thriller/suspense.

Scott Nicholson is a widely accomplished writer, and this book is his strongest achievement yet. This novel delves full force into intense paranoia. Although the novel itself is mostly bloodless, the paranoia and fear that develop within the mind of the main character, Julia Stone, cause you to imagine the worst.

I believe the writer only creates half the story, and that you complete it by bringing your imagination, experience, and heart to the tale. I am happy to share the journey with you.

I’ve written more than 20 novels, about 80 short stories, four children’s books, some comic books, screenplays, and a couple of non-fiction books, as well as five collaborations with J.R. Rain. Many of my tales are based on supernatural legends from the Southern Appalachian Mountains, and I also write mystery and suspense thrillers that are most often compared to the work of Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

I’ve also published Liquid Fear and Chronic Fear with Amazon’s Thomas & Mercer imprint and McFall with 47North, as well as a number of audiobooks and foreign translations. I love hearing from you, because you’re the reason I do this, so let’s connect! Learn more about my work at
