Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

Compelling reading, Jana Pekten conjures fantastic imagery and heartfelt characters. Although very long do not be put off, this book is well worth your time. It will lead you through a whole gamut of emotions and spit you out at the other end feeling better for the journey. Highly Recommended.

The Guardian of Secrets is an incredibly rich and well written historical saga. This is the first book that I have read by author Jan Petken and I am very impressed with her writing style and ability to create an intricate and well developed story line that is also a page turner.

I found this epic family saga that spans several decades a riveting read. The author skillfully transported me back in time and I felt very grounded in England and later Spain in this historic era, which centered around the time of the Spanish Civil War. This work of historical fiction filled with war, violence, love and heartache and rife with well-developed, complex characters shouldn’t be missed.

A powerful debut novel, brilliantly conceived and written, an epic piece that develops complex characters and universal theme. A must read for fans of historical novels. Look for more from the pen of Jana Petken. Recommended.

Jana Petken is a wonderful storyteller with an great imagination. The characters were amazing with incredible stories that stir sadness, anger, and made me happy, at various times. Joseph Dobbs is probably one of the best villains I have ever read. This is an unforgettable book and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves reading.

About The Author

Hello everyone. I lived out my childhood days in, Dénia, on the beautiful eastern coast of Spain and have after a long adventure returned there to live on a permanent basis.

I joined the (British) Royal Navy at the age of seventeen. I was a leading Naval Policewoman, equivalent to a sergeant in the military police. I would like to think that the Navy taught me discipline and Respect for others.

After the Navy, I went to work for a travel company as an overseas representative. Seasons in the Balearic Islands, followed by the Canary Islands and North Africa awakened my interest in “people studying.”

During the first Gulf War I was a security guard at the BBC World Service radio station. After I left the BBC, I spent twelve years as a bodyguard for a Saudi Princess.

Later, I found a new career as a cabin-crew member for British Airways, which allowed me to travel extensively to every corner of the world, at least two or three times. I have never been to New Zealand – a pity, or to Iran, which would have been an eye opener.

Unfortunately, I had an accident on board a flight. The aircraft, a Boeing 747, was flying at 39,000 feet above Africa when it was caught in clear-air turbulence. As the plane dropped my body flew upward causing my head to hit the cabin’s ceiling. As a result of this accident, I have had three major operations on my spinal cord and am now retired. I missed the busy and interesting experiences that my job had brought me, thus turning my attention to writing.

The award winning, The Guardian of Secrets was my first major work of, historical fiction. That was followed by, Mercy Carver, Dark Shadows, book 1, and Blood Moon, book 2. My new novel is a historical thriller, The Errant Flock.

It’s nice to meet you all…

Thank you for considering today’s Book Of The Day – Jana Petken and ENT appreciate it.
