It coulda been worse.

That’s the “working epitaph” of 15-year-old Moon Landing. Not that Moon’s death is imminent–far from it–but his thoughts have turned to gallows humor, as his world disintegrates along with his parents’ marriage. His older brother skateboards through life with ease, but Moon is deeply troubled.

Just as he is solving for romantic unknowns with a gorgeous older girl, Moon must contend with his dad’s sudden absence, his mom-gone-wild’s sexcapades, and his best friends’ curious penchant for self-destruction. Not to mention his newfound role in agitating to end an African guerrilla’s bloody rampage.

To make sense of it all, Moon embarks on a quest to unravel the riddle of God’s injustice to man.

In this humorous and touching coming-of-age novel, Moon struggles to understand his parents–who they are, what brought them together, what broke them apart–and what that all means for his future.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

This is a book that has something for everyone. It takes turns being poignant, funny, sentimental but it always has you in a strong grip with its multi dimensional characters and George’s craftsmanship with words.

The wordsmithing is something of great beauty. It is such a relief to know that good writing and literature is still of GREAT value in this world of reality tv and the dumbing-down of a craft. I get up early and take my coffee back to bed– and had the utmost pleasure reading this book in the wee hours! Can’t wait for the next one!!

Hooray for Book of Moon! It has more than earned its 5 star rating, filled with snappy dialogue and memorable characters it was a very entertaining read. Moon Landing, the eponymous narrator of the novel wrestles with matters both existential and practical. He is a smart, witty and wise beyond his years. He has a great story to tell, You will enjoy this book.

A polished and fast read, The Book of Moon sucks the reader into ephemeral topics such as coming-of-age, divorce and skateboard competitions layered on top of the timeless quest to understand how the spiritual and physical world interact. Somehow it works and best of all it is strangely light-hearted, fun and very funny.

A wonderful look into the life of an adolescent these days. I don’t think many parents understand the thoughts of their own children as well as the author has depicted them here. Maybe that’s a good thing! Well written and very entertaining. Loved it.
