For fans of Stephen King, Joe Hill, and James Herbert. A paranormal conference at the most haunted hotel in the Blue Ridge Mountains goes haywire when ghost hunters accidentally stir up demons.

SPEED DATING WITH THE DEAD

When Digger Wilson brings his paranormal team Spirit Seekers International to the White Horse Inn, he is skeptical that his dead wife will keep her half of the bargain. He doesn’t believe in ghosts, and just before she died, she promised to meet him there.

But when one of the conference guests channels a mysterious presence and an Ouija board spells out a pet phrase known only to Digger and his wife, his convictions are challenged.

And when guests start to disappear, Digger and his daughter Kendra must face the circle of demons that view the hotel as their personal playground. Because soon the inn will be closing for good, angels can’t be trusted, and demons don’t like to play alone . . .

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

Like his other books, Scott brings in so many interesting characters that play an integral role in the book, Kendra – Digger and Beth’s daughter, Cody, Roach, different members of the conference, some who are full on believers, others who are skeptics to the highest degree. On my definitely recommended to read list! If you are like me and love the paranormal, love ghosts, spirits, all of that, or if you like horror books, or if you just want something different to read, this is an excellent book to grab!

This is the second Scott Nicholson novel I’ve read. If you ask me, Scott’s got a great way with words. His voice is hilarious and perpetually creative. What’s nice about this is that no matter what story he’s telling, I can enjoy it for the writing itself. It was fast-paced and fun, and the suspense kept me glued to the pages. I found it to be a great read and I recommend it.

Lots of fun, but also some serious scares. Nicholson managed to keep a perfect balance of humor and horror throughout. At 346 pages, (paperback edition) it is an average size novel, but it was such a pleasure to read, that I zipped through it like it was a novella. Highly recommended for horror fans for sure, but also for anyone who just wants a fun read.

Sadly, I just finished reading SPEED DATING WITH THE DEAD. The only reason that I say “sadly” is because I would have preferred another six or eight hundred pages of this novel! I find Nicholson’s writing to be amazing…. His character development, his highly descriptive writing style (reminiscent of Peter Straub) and his ability to scare the hell out of me (reminiscent of another of my favorites, Bentley Little)! I rate Mr. Nicholson’s stuff right up there with what Stephen King USED to put out (what I refer to as “the good old days”).

Author Scott Nicholson has written 12 thrillers, 60 short stories, four comics series, and six screenplays. He’s also a freelance editor and journalist. He lives in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, where he tends an organic garden, successfully eludes stalkers, and generally lives the dream. He’s online at www.hauntedcomputer.com.

Nicholson has written hundreds of songs and poems and was a musician in a former life. a newspaper reporter, he’s won three North Carolina Press Association awards. He’s had the usual collection of odd jobs: dishwasher, carpenter, painter, paranormal investigator, baseball card dealer, and radio announcer. Now he haphazardly trades words for magic beans and uses “haphazardly” as often as possible while decrying the overuse of adverbs.

Entering the digital era with a vengeance, Nicholson is releasing original titles and collections while conspiring to release interactive books in the near future, building audio files, video, and collaborative fiction projects. He operates Haunted Computer Books and Indie Books Blog to bring a variety of voices to readers.

Nicholson won the grand prize in the international Writers of the Future contest in 1999. That same year, he was first runner-up for the Darrell Award. He studied Creative Writing at Appalachian State University and UNC-Chapel Hill. He has been an officer of Mystery Writers of America and Horror Writers Association and is a member of International Thriller Writers and inaugural member of the Killer Thriller Band.

Unfortunately, they never taught him to write: he had 105 rejections before his first story sale and over 400 before he sold a novel. He hasn’t learned much from his mistakes but thinks he’ll probably improve with practice. If nothing else, he’s become a better liar.

His website www.hauntedcomputer.com features author interviews, articles, and fiction excerpts. Bad relationship advice. Humor. Gardening tips. Subliminal tricks to sell his books. That sort of thing.

Thank you for considering today’s Book Of The Day – Scott Nicholson and ENT appreciate it.
