Joni is no stranger to miracles. Her prayers and even her dreams have a habit of coming true. Her husband is regularly amazed by her strong faith and her premonitions: “I had a dream, Greg. There’s going to be a fire. I saw Kathy and Frank in the middle of it.”
Frank Scalari is a physicist. Frank, his wife Kathy, and their four children, along with their horses, goats and chickens, have just moved onto their new five acre ranch high in the Cuyamaca Mountains, 60 miles northeast of San Diego.
On October 25th, 2003, the ravenous Cedar Fire sweeps down into San Diego on strong Santa Ana winds. Two days later the monstrous thirty-mile-long firestorm reverses course and heads back to the Cuyamaca Mountains. Joni assures Kathy, her ever-skeptical best friend, that she is praying for her property and that: “Nothing is too hard for God! Not even this terrible firestorm!” But neither Kathy nor Frank believe in the supernatural.
GOD INSIDE THE FIRE is a true life page-turner of epic proportions. As the 427-square-mile Cedar Fire takes direct aim at the Scalari family’s ranch, Joni, and Danielle, her 9-year-old daughter, each pray for a miracle. They’re praying for more than just a horse ranch—they’re praying to open their friends’ hearts and minds to the reality of God. The impossibilities within this amazing true story will astound you.
If you look, you just may find…GOD INSIDE THE FIRE.
Here’s what the reviewers have to say:
I confess that I peeked inside at the color photos documenting this jaw-dropping miracle first, and the book was still a real page-turner for me (I’ve already read it twice). It’s like an action/adventure, a supernatural thriller & a true family drama all rolled into one.
Many thanks to the author for sharing this amazing true story. I was on the edge of my seat. This story truly made me believe in miracles. An exciting read for anyone, especially if you have or know anyone who has been through a harrowing experience. God’s power and grace are very evident.
When I first read this story, the hair on the back of my neck stood up…the miracle was almost unimaginable. Written at the pace of the fire itself, the story reads like a novel…but when you realize it’s a true story (photos of the miracle are in the book), that’s when your spirit soars.
The intensity of these California fires seen from the view of the people that lived through this disaster is heart rending. God’s work throughout the book (before the fires, during the fires and after the fires) is so evident and inspires one to never doubt His power, the power of prayer and His love for us. It is well worth the read.
This was an amazing book and one that could be read over and over, especially if you ever begin to doubt you faith. A pageturner if there ever was one. Almost impossible to put down, it leaves you wanting more.

About The Author
Greg Stelley was born in San Diego, California. His grandfather was a sharecropper who drove his family out of Nebraska during the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s for a better life on the West Coast. Greg excelled in writing and film production in high school and college. After winning a top film award in a statewide contest, he tried his hand at songwriting. A few of his friends had formed a band, and recorded the song. Soon after, “Welcome to the 1980’s” was chosen to be featured on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. Greg spent years mixing sound for bands like Los Lobos, The Cramps, and The Blasters, to name a few. He met a music-loving exotic beauty named Joni during those years. Somehow, Greg convinced her to be his wife. Danielle and Juliette came along a few years later.
