One misfit kid is all that stands between an Appalachian Mountain town and a chilling supernatural force.

DRUMMER BOY: A Supernatural Thriller

On an Appalachian Mountain ridge, young Vernon Ray Davis hears the rattling of a snare drum deep inside a cave known as “The Jangling Hole,” and the wind carries a whispered name. According to legend, the Hole is home to a group of Civil War soldiers buried by a long-ago avalanche. Everyone, especially Vernon Ray’s dad, laughs at him…because he’s different.

On the eve of an annual Civil War re-enactment, the town of Titusville prepares for a mock battle. But inside the Hole, disturbed spirits are rising from their dark slumber, and one of them is heading home.

And Vernon Ray stands between the battle lines of the living and the dead, caught between a world where he doesn’t a belong and world from which he can never return…

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

“Scott Nicholson understands that the best horror novels achieve primal fear through a combination of sustained atmosphere, richly drawn characters, and believable if uncanny evils that draw unholy power from everyday lives.”–Christopher Ransom, author of The Birthing House

*******

Once again, Scott Nicholson has impressed me with his ability to tell a story. I’ll keep reading Scott Nicholson novels because I love them!

*******

The book is a page turner, especially the final few scenes. The writing is first rate and the well-drawn characters will have you shaking your head and saying you’re sure you know these guys–some of them anyway.

I don’t read a lot of horror, but Drummer Boy was recommended to me by a friend. I’m glad I followed his advice.

*******

I don’t usually write reviews but after this book I had to. This book kept me locked in and I couldn’t put it down. Through the entire book I felt like I was right there in the story. Best ghost story ever! Reminds me of Koontz or early Stephen King. Don’t pass this one up!!!

About The Author

I live in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, and much of my fiction is based on mountain legends, local haunted places, and strange events. I was inspired by my grandmother’s storytelling, and have always written as long as I can remember. I also love art and music, and I’ve had the usual assortment of odd jobs: carpenter, dishwasher, sports card dealer, painter, radio announcer, journalist, and freelance editor.

My novels include the Kindle bestsellers Disintegration, The Red Church, Speed Dating with the Dead, and The Skull Ring, as well as eight other novels, including the urban fantasy Cursed! with J.R. Rain and the paranormal romance series October Girls. I’ve also created the comics Grave Conditions and DIRT and have written six screenplays, several of which are available on Kindle.

My web site www.hauntedcomputer.com has writing advice, fiction excerpts, art and samples from my comic books, my movie work, and numerous essays. I love to hear from people about my work, even if you don’t like it! My writing is a journey of faith and exploration, and I am always willing to tackle the big questions with an open mind and willing spirit. I believe we all have the opportunity to make this world a more beautiful, powerful, and peaceful place by embracing the mysteries and power of our hearts. I hope you’ll join me on the journey.

Thank you for considering today’s Book Of The Day – Scott Nicholson and ENT appreciate it.
