When power grabbing politicians take control of Congress and write the reelection laws to effectively prevent themselves from ever being removed from office, it sends the nation into a deep economic depression. Millions are ruined, their savings destroyed, but the lobbyists, the corrupt politicians and their crony capitalist friends make billions . . . until a small group of patriots, or are they terrorists, force them to yield.
On a sultry Washington morning an attractive woman posing as a Department of Justice agent walks into their headquarters building to mail letters that appear to be from the Attorney General to 378 long-term incumbent members of Congress. She has deceived the best security system in the world to send a message to Congress and to the nation that will change everything.
The letter demands Congress pass an amendment to the Constitution that will forever prevent long-term professional politicians from controlling Congress again. Deadly force is promised if a 3 day time limit is not met.
While the enraged and frightened politicians argue over how to respond, the Attorney General takes personal control of the manhunt using Federal law enforcement against every known term limits organization. The brutality inflames the nation, however it fails to catch or stop the group calling itself the Term Limits Revolution. As the time expires and when Congress at first refuses to pass the amendment, the roller coaster, edge of your seat ride erupts with explosive action and crackling tension that will keep you turning the pages late into the night.
Here’s what the reviewers have to say:
I just finished this book and I am still in ‘book hangover’. The writing is incredible, I was not able to put it down for more than a few moments, and actually finished it at work. The characters are well developed and sympathetic. The plot line was realistic and flowed extremely well. The descriptions of what is happening in this country are real with no exaggeration.
This has been an excellent as well as frightening book. While the book is a work of fiction, some of what happens in the story is not. I stayed up late many nights reading this book and remained awake after turning off the light. Every American should read this book preferably before election day.
The Author’s words act like pictures flashing in my mind as I was reading. The characters were alive with life and most of all honor. This book gets a hold of you and will not let go. I could not put it down and stayed up way past midnight to finish. This story should be made into a movie.
I rarely finish books quickly but I read An Act of Self-Defense in little more than a day, literally unable to stop. This novel is so good, so fast paced and compellingly presented, that friends you buy it for will not even realize they’ve been immersed in liberty’s brine until they emerge pleasantly and fully pickled.
Erne Lewis has given us a startling first novel, one that is timely and relevant to our current governmental and political situations. This fast-moving tale, with a powerful ending, would lend itself to an action-packed film. And new fans will be waiting for Erne Lewis’s next book.

About The Author
Erne lives in Port Ludlow, Washington where he is now working on Drug War, his next novel, and where he sometimes races his Etchells sloop in the local regattas. Erne was a Seattle architect for several years, then a salmon aquaculturist in Oregon for 17 years, subsequently an entrepreneur-businessman, political activist and an ocean cruising sailor. In 2000 Erne ran for Congress as the Libertarian Party candidate. He also led a petition drive to remove Washington State’s corrosive and unjust asset forfeiture laws. Erne believes pandering power-seeking career politicians are a primary reason for the constant war and chaos our nation and the world endure. It was that observation that led him to write An Act of Self-Defense.
Thank you for considering today’s Book Of The Day – Erne Lewis and ENT appreciate it.
