But, is the grass truly greener on the other side of the fence?
A vivid portrayal of contemporary marriage and its problems, A Whisper to a Scream (The Bibliophiles: Book One) speaks to a longing in all of us, a yearning that might start as a vague notion, but eventually grows into an unbearable, vociferous cry.
This is the first installment of six novels exploring the lives of The Bibliophiles, a fictional suburban book club.
Here’s what the reviewers have to say:
“…fearless truthfulness…” Publisher’s Weekly
Karen Wojok Berner is the type of writer who feels what her characters feel, inspiring an emotional response from her readers. The story touches on many sensitive topics and causes one to take pause and think. I enjoyed this book and look forward to Ms. Wojok Berner’s next novel.
Quite an intriguing little book this is. It has been on my to read list for a month, and I read it basically in one day. It was hard to stray from it once I started, because I wanted to see what each woman was going to encounter next. When I finished the book, I was impressed with how real the storyline was. Nothing overly dramatic. Just the lives of two women, so similar to women we all know. I think that is ultimately why I liked the book so well. It was less like reading a book, and more like talking to two old college friends.
Some books you read, put down, and forget all about, but I promise you this won’t be one of them.

About The Author
Everyone has a story. When walking past the houses on your block during an after-dinner stroll or driving down a rural road dotted with singular farms, have you ever wondered what was going on inside?
I have always been interested in people’s backstories. How did they get to where they are today? What ramifications does the past have on the present?
So I decided to bring a group of people together, bound only by their love of classic literature, and see what happened.
The result is The Bibliophiles Series, which begins with “A Whisper to a Scream,” the story of Sarah Anderson, a stay-at-home mother of two, and Annie Jacobs, a PR executive dealing with fertility issues, and continues with each novel devoted to one or two of the Classics Book Club members, including their fearless leader, Edwina Hipplewhite.
I have been a writer/editor for more than twenty-five years, ten of which were spent in editing trade publications. A two-time “Folio Magazine” Ozzie Award for Excellence in Magazine Editorial and Design winner, my work has appeared in countless magazines and newspapers.
