A Model Murder is a fast-paced mystery that draws scary, sometimes hilarious, parallels between alpha males in strip clubs and law firms.

This first book in the Alicia Allen Investigates Trilogy introduces Alicia Allen, a 29-year-old London Anglo-Italian lawyer whose desire for Pringles is matched only by her desire to solve crime. When her neighbor—a beautiful aspiring Australian model—is found raped and murdered before she can pick up her first paycheck at a sleazy “hostess” club, Alicia ignites with such passion to bring the wrongdoer to justice, it would make even Portia envious.

As her dangerous quest draws her into the dark world of exploitative “hostess clubs,” Alicia finds herself facing similar circumstances in a new law firm where alpha males roam the halls in solicitor suits intimidating or stalking undervalued female coworkers. Worse luck, the deeper she delves into the investigation, the more her comfortable world falls apart. Friends are viciously attacked…potential lovers may not be what they seem…clues pop up in Italian opera, Shakespeare, and a cat.

Alicia finds her willingness to risk her own life for the sake of justice is sorely put to the test in a world where Fate plays no small role.

The Alicia Allen Investigates crime novels are fast-paced suspense mysteries, full of twists and turns, following in the tradition of writers such as Nicci French and Sue Grafton.

Here’s what the reviewers have to say:

Celia Conrad’s writing has a distinctive British slant, something for you lovers of British cozies to get your teeth into. This first book in a hopefully on-going series promises to keep her readers entertained for a satisfyingly long time.

Just finished this book and immediately downloaded the second one in the series. I really enjoyed all the characters and the plot was great. If you like your mysteries with a little romance and an interesting story line I can happily recommend this book. Thank you Celia Conrad for a most enjoyable read.

*******

The end came as a pleasant surprise. However, I’d grown fond enough of Miss Allen, I didn’t want it to be over. That’s the truest sign of a good book. Now I look forward to the next in the series.

What a great British mystery! Friends need to stick together and get justice for those they have lost. Alicia Allen is an attorney who strives to do the right thing even if it means giving up her dream job, so she can get some closure on the murder of a friend.

This novel is well written and while there are not a lot of cliffhangers per-se, the prose compels one to read on—not only to learn who the murderer is and why, but to follow the story through to its nicely constructed ending. I look forward to reading more in the Alicia Allen series.

‘The inspiration for my legal crime trilogy featuring a heroine who is an Anglo-Italian, Pringle-munching, crime-solving London solicitor with a dogged determination and a keen sense of justice grew out of my experience from working within the law, my love of Italy and, of course, Pringles!’
