“The author did a good job with character development. There was sweet romance, some humor and tearful moments. Definitely worth reading!” -Kathy

Eight years ago, Allie Hathaway scandalized the wealthy elite of Chicago when she ran away to San Francisco. Now a world-renowned portrait painter, her life is filled with laughter and friendship, including being a mother to her orphaned niece. Life is perfect, so why can’t she forget her first love?

Thomas Bradford has come a long way from being the Hathaway family’s carriage boy. A veterinary degree, ambition and hard work have made him one of Chicago’s most sought-after bachelors. If only he could forget those stolen moments with Allie, Thomas might be able to enjoy his success.

The Great Quake of 1906 stuns the nation and Allie’s art studio burns to the ground, destroying years of valuable work. She’s forced to return to Chicago with little Janey, the only spark of hope in a life reduced to ashes. Her faith is crushed by her tragic reversal of fortune. Thomas knows better than to fall for the beautiful young painter again, but he’s never been very wise around Allie Hathaway.

The carriage man’s son is all grown up and Allie doesn’t expect a second chance at a love that was refused eight years ago. Her life is in shambles and she has a child to support, so why won’t her heart accept the truth? Once their love was torn apart by circumstance, but Thomas and Allie must decide whether to forge a future of hope together.

“Strnad’s writing is enthralling. I was pulled in and it was tough to let go – even at the end of the book.” -Kathryn L.

The defining moments of young Ethan Opochensky’s life occurred during the summer he spent with his cousin Alice in the small, rural town of Meddersville. Three children disappeared that summer, his cousin among them. Nine-year-old Ethan believes he knows the killer, but his story is so fanciful, it is dismissed out of hand.

Twenty-five years later, children are once again disappearing in Meddersville. Ethan returns to Meddersville to separate fact from childish fantasy, to discover the truth behind Alice’s disappearance, and to bring her killer to justice.

A city turned lawless, a sky haunted by drifting, glowing creatures, an alien object blotting out the sun, and only a sixteen-year-old girl to make sense of it all. Lillia Wilkins is having a pretty normal day, filled with thoughts of school work, boys, and the occasional creepy stalker.

Then suddenly the lights go out and she looks up to find a massive object as wide as the city hovering in the sky. Chaos instantly erupts. People flee the city in droves. Even Lillia’s own foster mother abandons her, leaving her all alone to care for the younger children.

Luckily she happens upon Sherman, an alcoholic but crafty homeless man who knows how to navigate the chaotic streets of Louisville. When an intruder burns down the house, Lillia and Sherman must find a safe place to take the children. They need food and clothing. They need a good night’s sleep. They need to escape the city, now quarantined by the military.

Most of all, they need to answer the question: “What is the object?” And if that’s not enough, now they have to deal with the new mayor in town, attorney Barry Schafer, who wants to rob the city blind, starting by hiring a Westside gang to kill off all the police. But Lillia has a secret. She found something–or did it find her? Either way, it might be the key to unraveling the mystery of the object . . . and maybe saving the world.
