Sophie Hart wants a baby, badly. But first she needs to find the man of her dreams. Just a few months after declaring this grand plan to Gemma, her sexually incontinent, fashionista best friend, she meets a lovely lawyer called James. He is kind, witty, intelligent and, despite the ginger hair, perfect partner material.

Soon they fall in love and begin trying for a baby, but months pass and nothing. More months go by, and still no baby. Mother Nature seems to have other plans.

Will Sophie finally achieve her goal? Will she welcome a child into the world, or is there, in fact, more than one way to be a mother? Can motherhood mean something other than simply giving birth?
