In the aftermath of the Soviet Union’s collapse, Konstantin Pavlovich, a self-taught engineer and the son of a Russian scientist, becomes consumed by the mysteries of nuclear physics. To him, his inventions are not weapons of mass destruction. They are explorations into the atomic universe.

Then something unexpected happens.

Fast forward to the present day: evidence emerges of a sale involving stolen nuclear material. FBI agent Michelle Marsh and CIA operative Bill Estes are dispatched to Eastern Europe to trace the source. No sooner do they identify Pavlovich as a suspect than a U.S. Navy warship is engulfed in a nuclear fireball. As Washington scrambles, a chilling discovery is made—another nuclear device is out there, and it’s already on American soil.
